JOB DESCRIPTION FOR STREET OUTREACH SERVICE (SOS) SUPERVISOR
REPORTING: RESPONSIBLE TO AND REPORTS DIRECTLY TO THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
FUNCTION:TO ENSURE THAT UNSHELTERED HOMELESS PERSONS GAIN ACCESS TO AVAILABLE SHELTER AND OTHER RESOURCES AND SERVICES THROUGH A MOBILE UNIT
A. CLIENT SUPPORT SERVICES
2. Initiate contact and establish a working relationship with unsheltered homeless people for the purpose of providing assistance with attaining adequate shelter and access to needed services.
3. Make referrals to appropriate community resources.
4. Provide homeless people with transportation to shelter, withdrawal management services or other services.
6. Participate in appropriate workshops, training, and meetings as directed or approved by the Director of Operations.
7. Maintain confidential information within guidelines established by Shelter House’s Confidentiality Policy.
8. Take appropriate action to deal with any homeless emergency and perform other duties as needed or as directed.
B. STAFF SUPERVISION
1. Supervise and coordinate SOS team to ensure smooth department operations.
2. Conduct employee evaluations and provide feedback for performance improvement.
3. Address queries and resolve issues related to SOS operations and tasks.
4. Provide training and development opportunities to enhance staff skills.
5. Provide necessary resources and support to SOS staff for effective performance.
C. CLIENT DATA COLLECTION AND MANAGEMENT
1. Collecting all the needed data and making reports accurately and statistics digitally and on papers for easy access.
2. Making Spread/Excel Sheets and other MS tool for data collection and storing
3. Update and maintain data regularly, ensuring it remains accurate and secure.
4. Follow data storage protocols to ensure compliance and prevent data loss.
D. VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
1. Report any necessary maintenance to the Executive Director.
2. Maintain inventory and cleanliness through established processes.
3. Use caution and safe driving techniques while operating the vehicle.
E. HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform duties with a safety-first mentality and operate within the limitations established by the Organization.
2. Report on all health and safety concerns to the Executive Director.
3. Take every reasonable precaution to ensure the safety and well-being of clients. F. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
2. Available to work scheduled shifts.
3. Hold a valid G- Class Ontario driver’s licence, clean driving record and insurability
4. Willingness to undertake regular training and attend staff meetings.
5. Willing to work in inclement weather.
6. Adherence to all appropriate policies established by Shelter House, SOS, and all other relevant authorities.
G. QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education in Social Services, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.
2. Strong communication to deliver difficult information clearly and resolve issues.
3. Patience and tact with confused or defensive individuals.
4. Interpersonal skills to interact with diverse backgrounds and promote Shelter House’s image.
5. Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
6. Moderate writing skills for reports and documentation.
7. Knowledge of harm reduction, community services, and homelessness. 8. Good judgment, independence, and problem-solving skills.
9. Resourceful and creative in ensuring safe transportation.
10.Ability to build effective relationships with residents, staff, and the community
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: Up to $26.40 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Additional pay:
