**What is the Role**

The Legal Assistant/Paralegal works in a collaborative team environment and is responsible for the confidential legal support for a broad range of labour relations cases and legal matters associated with the work of boards of reference; the Educational Relations Board; the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board; and professional ethics, competency and collective interest committees. In addition to providing administrative support to our Legal Counsel, this position will also work as part of a team of Executive Assistants, to provide support, when appropriate, in the areas of labour relations, educational relations, and governance.

**What You Will Do**

Paralegal
- Assist with the preparation and organization for hearings, including organizing documents, exhibits, preparing witness lists, and coordinating with experts.
- Analyze and summarize legal documents.
- Compose correspondence and reports requiring a legal or technical knowledge based on case specifications and counsel requests.
- Review and proofread all documentation from a legal perspective and consult with legal counsel regarding the need for preparation of various legal documents.
- Conduct records and legal research sufficient to compose legal documents, contracts and correspondence.
- Develop and maintain a case file indexing system that can be used as an active archive for all ongoing and completed cases.
- Maintain confidential legal files in accordance with requirements for maintaining legal privilege, preserving evidence, and managing formal document disclosure when required.
- Utilize legal databases and/or software in conducting legal research and creating related documentation such as summaries and basic analysis.
- Monitor changes to government guidelines or regulations and submit reports on pertinent changes.
- Utilize existing files and a variety of other research resources to develop information for pending cases.
- Anticipate and prepare materials in responding to complex legal/administrative matters. Monitor deadlines, limitation periods, and other time factors and initiates follow up.
- Responsible for legislative analysis, reviewing government legislation and internal legislation.

Legal Assistant
- Support legal counsel including taking calls, forwarding messages, handling routine inquiries, booking meetings, organizing schedules, and assisting with office clerical duties as required.
- Prepare reports for Provincial Executive meetings on key developments and cases within the legal team.
- Coordinate activities and prepare written reports and correspondence for boards of reference, arbitrations and mutual terminations.
- Coordinate committee processes and prepare required documents for review and approval.
- Document and track ongoing cases, hearings, and other regulatory matters.
- Provide administrative support for the Federation’s disciplinary processes, including preparing appropriate correspondence; arranging meetings, conference calls, accommodations, hearing rooms and a court reporter as required.
- Administer submissions and reports in compliance with the Lobbyists Registry.
- Provide administrative support for the educational relations board.
- Provide administrative coverage and support to the Executive Director and Associate Executive Directors as required.

**What You Will Bring**
- Completion of a legal assistant or paralegal program, combined with 3-4 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of legal procedures and protocols and the principles, concepts and methods of legal research and analysis are required.
- Paralegal experience working with in-house counsel would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated initiative in taking on new responsibilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 products.
- Knowledge of terminology, grammar, vocabulary and spelling used in the legal field.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong research and report-generating skills.
- Experience in using legal database software.
- Highly motivated, well organized and legally minded.
- Exceptional time management and multi-tasking abilities.
- Show strong attention to detail and possess exceptional proofreading skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
