Job Description Summary

The Business Solutions Analyst (BSA) plays an important role in the overall planning and direction of the technology environment for the Undergraduate Admissions Office. The BSA leads high-level requirements gathering and analysis of complex systems requests impacting operational processes and the family of enterprise Student Information Systems. The BSA plays a critical role in ensuring alignment across, and with, operational functions and strategic IT initiatives while promoting best practices in the appropriate use and safeguarding of student information. The BSA is a liaison, building and managing strong working relationships with business units and stakeholders, both internal and external to the Undergraduate Admission Office, including UBC IT teams. The BSA is called upon to collaborate with all levels of staff at the university, both technical and non-technical as well as provide guidance to Undergraduate Admission business stakeholders in the participation and direction of systems implementation projects. The BSA also actively engages in IT systems projects; participating in systems design, testing, and quality assurance.

Organizational Status

The Business Solutions Analyst, reports to the Associate Director - International, Undergraduate Admissions. The Business Solutions Analyst interacts with all levels of staff across units within Enrolment Services and other academic and service units across the campus, including UBC IT, to provide service and support in identifying and shepherding system requirements. The Business Solutions Analyst may coordinate, provide direction and/or assign work to staff when necessary.

Work Performed
- Analyzes and assesses potential changes to business processes and reviews required design changes with appropriate Admissions staff. Using in-depth knowledge of all Undergraduate Admissions related students systems, including the Student Information System (SIS), guides undergraduate admission stakeholders in determining their business needs.
- Analyzes, researches, tracks, monitors, prioritizes, authorizes, and communicates Admission system change requests to UBC IT. Reviews and participates in the design usability of changes and enhancements to the Admission systems to ensure they are intuitive and complete.
- Communicates the status of IT initiatives, projects and operational performance of systems to Undergraduate Admission business stakeholders
- Co-ordinates and monitors the status of all Admission system changes in development, verification or recently moved to production.
- Designs, develops, implements and evaluates end user training.
- Ensures that the development of user documentation for various system components meets Admissions staff needs.
- Responsible for communicating with Admissions and related units regarding Admission systems changes that impact the functionality of systems or reporting within other units
- In collaboration with Student Systems, analyzes testing requirements and conducts functional and quality testing on new developments to the Admission system.
- Investigates bug reports, determines their priority and validity, and communicates relevant information to Student Systems.
- Trains, coordinates and supervises software testing teams made up of members from the Admissions department.
