We offer 24/7 crisis shelter transitional housing options on-site and, in the community, health and well-being support, training and skill development, and ongoing care once youth move into the community.
For over 40 years, Covenant House has been dedicated to its mission of serving youth on the street and to protect and safeguard all youth with absolute respect and unconditional love. Since 1982, Covenant House has supported more than 100,000 young people.
**Position Overview**:
The CSS drop-in youth worker is responsible for the direct implementation of the Covenant House’s philosophy, mission statement and policies as they pertain to the drop in. This person will be scheduled to work shifts on Saturday Sunday and all holidays that fall on the weekend from 11am - 7pm.
**Responsibilities**
- Providing a safe and welcoming space for youth that are experiencing homelessness
- Assisting youth with accessing resources and supports
- Supporting youth to exit homelessness
- Ongoing assessment of youths' needs; individual counseling with youth.
- Crisis intervention in situations of physical confrontation, medical and psychiatric emergencies, and for youth who have recently experienced trauma.
- Acting as an advocate for youth both within the agency as well with external agencies.
- Assisting youth with Food bank/ Clothing room
- Assisting youth with laundry
- Serving youth lunch and dinner
- Performing administrative duties, such as logging youth in, ETO entries, incident report writing, submitting food orders for the next day.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Qualification, Experience**:
- College or university degree or diploma in child and youth work or equivalent is necessary
- Minimum two years’ experience in a drop in setting. Knowledge of adolescent developmental theory and specific issues related to street youth.
- First Aid, CPR and basic computer skills an asset.
- Ability to identify, assess and intervene differentially with youth in crisis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of community resources.
