**GENERAL DESCRIPTION**: The position will design and deliver quality and creative programs within a youth drop-in setting that meet the needs of young women, youth and families from diverse communities, with a focus on social recreation programming, health promotion, physical health education, violence and crime prevention and leadership development. They will provide crisis intervention, supportive counselling and warm referrals to support youth where required. The Youth Arcade is a youth focused community development, leadership building and harm reduction setting. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Youth & Justice Services and is part of CUPE Local 2289.

**MAJOR DUTIES**:

- Supervise an active after school drop-in with over 70 youth participants per day.
- Facilitate and coordinate young women’s education and social engagement programs at the Youth Arcade.
- Implement and monitor ongoing strategies to engage and connect youth to opportunities, resources and services with special emphasis on young women, youth of colour and youth from marginalized communities.
- Develop an effective outreach strategy, with a particular focus on reaching young women, using a range of tools including social media forums to ensure our programs/services are accessible.
- Lead the design, development and implementation of violence prevention and life skills activities, community development initiatives, and intensive leadership programs.
- Design and facilitating gender based programs, including leading our Venus Young Women’s program, to empower young women to take up space and have their voices heard on issues that are relevant to them.
- Provide crisis intervention, supportive counselling services and support to youth and their families. Advocate on behalf of youth with partner agencies, schools, police and other key stakeholders. Provide information and referrals when appropriate
- Build strong partnerships with other service providers/agencies to support the effective delivery of services
- Support and nurture a team of peer leaders, placement students and volunteers.

**REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS**:

- BSW or BA in a relevant field and two years’ experience in a community based youth setting, or a combined equivalent of education and experience.
- Strong skills in group facilitation, education, advocacy.
- Recent experience in and knowledge of issues affecting youth, particularly marginalized youth, positive youth development, gender based work, specializing in young women’s programing, social recreational programming and knowledge of City wide youth programs and services.
- Demonstrated experience in youth programming within a community development framework.
- Demonstrate skills and ability to intervene in conflict situations involving youth.
- Demonstrated experience of working from and anti-oppression and anti-colonial framework
- Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with relevant youth community resources in Toronto.
- Strong youth outreach and engagement skills.
- Some experience supervising and directing volunteers, students and peer Workers.
- Ability to manage crisis, mediate conflict and employ harm reduction strategies.
- Experience and skills in informal counselling, mentorship, and warm referrals.
- Certification in Crisis Prevention and Intervention or a willingness to train.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and computer proficiency in MS Office programs.
- Able to work scheduled evenings and weekends as they arise.
- Comfort with word processing, spreadsheets and working in a LAN environment.
