**Overview**:
The Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) program aims at to improving the development and well-being of children aged 0-6 who are living in conditions of risk. It focuses on early intervention and prevention, targeting communities with high rates of poverty, family violence, substance abuse, and other challenges. CAPC provides support to families through community-based projects that offer services such as parenting programs, early childhood development activities, nutrition education, and social support networks. The goal is to enhance children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development, ultimately improving their long-term outcomes. The overall objective of the CAPC Worker is to strengthen parental and family capacity, skills and social supports.

The CAPC program also offers an opportunity to connect elders with the parents of 0-6 years of age and provide a safe space to build on their skills and knowledge around traditional parenting, sharing time, love, life skills and experiences. The program is designed to meet the social, emotional and spiritual needs of families and children.

**Program Objectives**:

- Improving family capacity and strengthening social supports in families of **children 0 - 6 living in conditions of risk** in Surrey.
- Strengthening parental and family capacity, skills and social supports for **Aboriginal families with children 0 - 6** through providing spiritual, physical, emotional and mental support to Elders, parents, caregivers and children
- Strengthen parental and family knowledge of **injury prevention** and their capacity and skills to prevent injuries in children 0-6.
- Strengthen parental and family knowledge of **healthy weights** and their capacity and skills to reach and/or maintain healthy weights in families with children 0 - 6
- Strengthen parental and family knowledge of **mental health and skills** to enhance mental health in their families with children 0-6.
- Reconnecting with cultural integrity through traditional teachings

**Job Duties & Responsibilities**:

- The CAPC Facilitator will take lead in navigating the CAPC operations and day-to-day duties
- Provide the Early Years Program Manager with summaries of weekly operations, issues and concerns as they arise, and collaborate with program manager & coordinators for solutions
- Support collaboration between AECD and CAPC program planning and implementation
- Collaborate with the Program manager in the monthly team meetings with staff to discuss children’s progress and programming.
- Provide culturally safe programming space and transportation for the community to come together and providing wrap around services using advocacy and traditional knowledge
- Actively participate in staff meetings, functions and projects
- Assist in preparation for meetings (schedule meeting, coordinate meeting times, add agenda items, send invites, etc.)
- Discuss concerns and issues about specific children with their parents or caregivers by adapting to individual needs of families through 1-1 support.
- Convey information received from parents about children’s needs or routines to other staff (such as AIDP, Doula, etc.) as appropriate.
- Encourage parent participation in the programs by providing 1-1 outreach, home visit and family support to parents, caregivers and families who may not be ready to join formal programming or need some extra support.
- Efficiently handle a case load of minimum 25-30 parents and 15-20 children, per month
- Ensure that daily/monthly attendance forms are maintained, in conjunction with the Early Years Program Manager.
- Program facilitation of 3-hour sessions is held thrice a week in addition to 1-1 and outreach support, related to spiritual, physical, emotional and mental support and wellness (Ex: Medicine Wheel teachings, physical self care, community resource and interaction, etc.)
- Program facilitating as required for at least one 3-hour session per program, weekly, in sessions related to spiritual, physical, emotional and mental support and wellness.
- Maintaining up-to-date client evaluation and administration of evaluation tools
- Coordinate with the FRAFCA bus driver for scheduled transportation
- Other duties as required

**Qualifications & Competencies**:

- Diploma in a related field (Ex: Early Childhood Development, Child & youth Care, Social Services, etc.)
- At least 2 years of experience in facilitating and working with high-risk community
- Must have (or be willing to obtain within 90 days) a valid First Aid Certificate
