**Deputy Fire Chief**:

**The Department**:
**The Position**:
Reporting directly to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief is a senior administrative, operational and supervisory position. The Deputy Chief is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing fire suppression, training, incident response, fire prevention, mechanical work and safety operations.. The Deputy Fire Chief exercises considerable independence of judgment and action in carrying out assignments in accordance with departmental policies, plans and objectives, and acts for the Fire Chief in their absence.

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- Certificate or Diploma in Fire Service Leadership or Administration
- Completion of NFPA 1021 - Fire Officer III, NFPA 1521 - Incident Safety Officer, NFPA 1041 - Fire Service Instructor II, Incident Command System - Level 300
- Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and a safe driving record
- A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in the Fire Service
- Demonstrated experience as an inspirational and adaptive leader
- Ability to foster a positive, respectful and inclusive work culture
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with City departments and staff, First Nation and government officials, municipal and community partners, members of the public, the media, and various other special interest groups
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with various groups including senior leadership, union leadership, media and the workforce
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation including the BC Fire Code & WorkSafeBC regulations
- A high degree of integrity, honesty, and accountability for personal and team successes and challenges
- Previous experience as an Incident Commander with the ability to organize and direct resources to control a major emergency incident
- Available for after-hours on-call duty
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
