**Purpose**
The Warehouse Worker supports the efficient operation of the food bank by ensuring the organized flow of food and supplies through the warehouse, assisting with deliveries, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and collaborating with staff and volunteers. This role is essential to ensuring timely, accurate distribution of food hampers and donated goods to individuals and families in need.
**Job Duties and Responsibilities**
**Warehouse Assistance**
- Prepare a daily work order to ensure a continuous supply of essential hamper items
- Coordinate with the Warehouse Manager on the distribution of surplus products, as per the Distribution List
- Assist volunteers and staff sorting, picking orders in the warehouse
- Help maintain the flow of food coming into, and going out of the warehouse, as needed
- Ensure food best before/expiry dates are checked and processed accordingly
- Verify, load and unload donations in a timely manner
- Build pallets, as needed
- On a daily basis tidy warehouse to maintain a safe and healthy work environment
**Food Delivery**
- Assist in loading items for delivery.
- Review delivery addresses, determine appropriate routes and maintain schedule.
- Load and unload products from trucks and trailers.
- Notify supervisors about any needed repairs and maintenances.
- Adhere to company operating policies and procedures.
**General maintenance**
- Responsible for cleaning the warehouse; removing debris, and keeping areas neat and tidy i.e. remove garbage and recycle to the proper area
- Assist staff to move, re-locate shelving, supplies etc., as needed to make the best use of space
- Identify and report possible repairs for which a qualified tradesperson is required
- Perform minor outdoor maintenance to comply with health and safety protocols
**Other**
- Assume responsibility of additional tasks as assigned
- Assign work to, and guide the work of warehouse volunteers, as required
**Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Traits**:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in warehouse operations, inventory management, or delivery is an asset.
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with safe food handling practices and warehouse safety protocols is preferred.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for reporting and identifying maintenance needs.
- Ability to operate pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment (training provided if necessary).
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record are preferred but not required.
**Working Conditions**:
- This position requires regular physical activity including lifting, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods.
- Work is primarily performed in a warehouse setting with some outdoor tasks required.
- Occasional flexibility in hours may be needed to support special deliveries, events, or seasonal activities.
**Additional Requirements**
