The Patient Safety Department provides leadership for the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient safety across the Network. The principal functional areas include: leading the organizational response to patient harm, building a culture of safety and learning, safety anticipation and preparedness, focus on reliability to prevent harm and sensitivity to operations to ensure care is safe every day.

This role provides direct oversight for the organizational maintenance, analysis and accessibility of the Safety First System (RL) which is essential to the core components of the corporate patient safety and patient relations programs. This role ensures that all staff, physicians and learners have timely access to appropriate data capture, education on the system and trend analysis. This role also has responsibility for system optimization to support proactive identification of risk and feedback trends, a transparent culture of safety and timely documentation, response and resolution to patient/family feedback. Additionally this role will be responsible to support the response to and documentation of patient and family feedback.

**Activities**:

- Accountable for setting up new staff in Safety First: updating/creating scopes/access/alerts/customized requests
- Corporate lead for troubleshooting system issues/user questions/updating user scopes
- Corporate support for programs to access Safety First data including custom reports and analysis
- Leads the creation and analysis of data reports at a corporate and program level
- Provides education to staff on the functions of the system including report generation, form creation and access to data
- Leads the optimization of risk and feedback forms and fields including through editing, creating and improving effectiveness of system
- Primary liaison with vendor (RL Datix) and internal IT: system updates, RL hub etc.
- Leads the retrieval and analysis of Risk and Feedback data for individual and overlapping trends
- Accountable for ongoing staff training/orientation on Safety First and creation of educational material

**Knowledge & Skills**
- Minimum a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a clinical environment with participation in patient safety/quality improvement initiatives e.g. Releasing Time to Care, falls risk prevention, etc.
- Experience with team facilitation
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and problem solving skills
- Strong customer service orientation and conflict resolution skills
- High level of maturity and empathy and demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy, tact and professionalism
- Strong initiative
- Good analytical/report generation skills
- Experience with RL Risk and Feedback
- Regulated Health Professional _(i.e. CNO, MRTO)_
