**What We Will Ask of You**: As a key member of our Behaviour Consultation Services (BCS), our Behaviour Technician, (BT)) has an important role The Behaviour Technician (BT) provides direct and indirect applied behavior analytic (ABA-based) programming to individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities within Canopy’s catchment area including Peterborough, Haliburton, Kawartha Pine Ridge and Northumberland area. The BT works in all locations supported by BCS, including family homes, group homes, treatment beds, and other settings as required. The BT assists the Behaviour Consultant (BC) by conducting necessary assessments and implementing identified ABA-based strategies with supported people and/or mediators to achieve desired treatment outcomes in line with identified goals.
The BT provides a variety of administrative supports, including but not limited to data collection, graphing, creation of programming materials and maintaining thorough session notes on Client Data Manager (CDM). The BT develops and implements program specific training offerings to supported people and mediators such as: ABA 101, Internet Safety, Relationship Safety and other trainings as directed to support program needs. The BT’s role is to ensure best practices are followed and quality service is delivered while enhancing the overall quality of life and independence for service users accessing Behavioural Consultation Services.
**Primary Responsibilities**:
- Assist the Clinical Supervisor (CS), Behaviour Consultant (BC) and mediators with ongoing assessments (e.g., functional behavioural assessment, assessing skill levels) or other assessments as directed in order to inform treatment planning.
- Implement preventative behaviour intervention strategies to reduce and/or eliminate potential escalated and/or aggressive behaviours as directed by CS or BC.
- Provide additional documentation support to BCS team which may include but is not limited to: sending service user program reports and updates, inputting session notes into the CDM in a timely manner, providing information to the BC and/or CS regarding progress of programming goals and general correspondence.
- Collaborate with BCS team on supported person’s needs and develop resources to facilitate implementation of recommendations identified in Behaviour Support Plan (or other reports) as required (e.g., creation of programming materials).
- Coordinate and administer various program related trainings to supported persons and mediators including; ABA 101, Internet Safety, Relationship Safety and other trainings as directed.
- Follow direction to complete other tasks and projects as directed.
**Qualifications**:
- College or Bachelor Degree in Social Science or equivalent or related experience.
- Successful completion of Registered Behaviour Technician course work or ability to gain registration is considered an asset.
- One year of experience working with people of a variety of ages with developmental disabilities and/or dual diagnosis and preferred experience in development and implementation of ABA evidence-based programming.
- First Aid CPR Level C.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or Safe Management training.
- Valid G-Class driver’s license for the Province of Ontario, access to reliable transportation and have valid proof of automobile insurance with driving for business purposes and a minimum liability of two million dollars.
- Annual completion of a Criminal Background Check/Declaration, including Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS).
- Commitment to maximize resources and improve people’s quality of life.
