for the full-time positions Behaviour Support Assistant.

The purpose of the Behaviour Support Assistant is to assist in building capacity with school personnel in the areas of students’ social/emotional development, behaviour and safety.

This position reports to the Manager of Educational Support Services.

Main Responsibilities:
Assists Principals, Teachers, Educational Assistants (EA’s),Child and Youth Workers (CYW’s) and Personal Care Assistants ( PCA’s) in further developing strategies to promote positive student behaviour, in collaboration with the Instructional Leadership Consultants (ILCs), System Principals and Professional Services staff.

Attend at schools to observe students, collect relevant data from school personnel, guide the development of and consult on Individual Safety plans.

Assist schools with establishing and implementing a digital data tracking system and support its use.

Collect, collate and provide feedback on data to be used for Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA’s) and Individual Education Plan alternative program goals.

Identify students’, collect data and complete documentation according to Ministry guidelines for submission of Special Incident Portion (SIP) funding.

Collaborate with school staff to gather data for allocation of Education Worker support.

Prepare and present professional learning on a variety of topics for Education Workers, administration, and teachers.

Provide ongoing learning and support to staff, including making recommendations, in appropriate de-escalations strategies and physical intervention as outlined by Board policy and using Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.

Access, connect and co-ordinate families with Board services and external agencies.

Attend case conferences and in-school meetings as appropriate.

Collaborate with Human Resource Services by connecting community colleges with the Recruitment team for potential new Education Workers.

Develop, plan and present orientation for newly hired staff.

Develop, plan and present orientation for college students prior to the start of their college placement with KPR.

Support college placement students in collaboration with the school team/administration.

Review and respond to Workplace Violence Incident reports and environmental risk assessments as identified by Human Resource Services, Health & Safety team.

Oversee all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requests for Special Education needs to include monitoring requests, sourcing, ordering, tracking and delivering of the equipment, and train staff on proper use of PPE.

Supervision:
Provides guidance, recommendation, instructions, and direction regularly to school personnel.

Supervise college placement students.

Main Contact:
Internal: Staff, students, volunteers, other related departments.

External: Student families, outside agencies, and general public.

Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent;
Three (3) year college diploma or undergraduate university degree as a Child and Youth Worker;
40hr Registered Behavioural Technician ( RBT) training through one of the approved online courses;
Three (3) years to five (5) years of experience as a CYW.

Specialized Skills:
Basic computer skills;
Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Instructor’s Certificate;
Proven behaviour assessment and program development ski
