**About the Role**

As an Archaeologist and Project Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in leading and conducting archaeological research and coordinating projects related to the preservation and documentation of K’ómoks First Nation’s cultural heritage. This position requires a combination of archaeological expertise, project management skills, and a deep understanding of the cultural significance of archaeological sites for Indigenous communities, and specifically for K’ómoks Nation.

**What you will be doing**
- Lead, manage, and schedule fieldwork associated with the Cultural Heritage Investigation Permits (CHIPs).
- Conduct archaeological surveys and excavations in collaboration with K’ómoks First Nation (KFN), community members and external stakeholders.
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and ensure filing is updated and maintained.
- Document and analyze archaeological findings, artifacts, and structures.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and invoices, detailing archaeological findings, methodologies used, and recommendations for CHIP.
- Document and submit contraventions of the Heritage Conservation Act (HCA) and works with the Natural Resources Officers (NRO) on reporting relating to any contraventions of the HCA; follow up on investigations and inform Director of Intergovernmental Relations (DIGR).
- Research general information on referrals and preparing summaries as required.
- Accept referral permit requests, and monitoring follow-ups as required.
- Report to KFN community through presentations and documents on site findings and materials.
- Collaborate with KFN Culture Department, other departments within KFN, external partners, and consultants as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as required.

**What you will need**
- A degree in Archaeology, Anthropology with Archeology focus, or a related field; Masters is preferred.
- Previous work experience and/or training in Archeology, Referrals, or Indigenous Studies is an asset.
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting and timeline management.
- Effective written and verbal communication and collaboration skills to work crossfunctionally and present findings to diverse audiences.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Knowledge of the Heritage Conservation Act and archaeological permitting in BC.
- Knowledge and experience with First Nation’s traditional knowledge, mapping, data sovereignty and information management. Knowledge of KFN history an asset.
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness with thorough knowledge of the current First Nations governance landscape in BC and knowledge of relevant socio-historical events relevant to First Nations in Canada.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office and proficient with Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Zoom, Teams, Google Earth, database software, etc.

**Working Conditions**
- Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
- **Wage**:$28.00-40.00/hour
