**Reports to**:Crisis Response Coordinator
**Working** **Conditions**:Majority of time spent on-scene at emergency situations, indoors, outdoors, on the telephone from home, at a police division, or hosting/ participating in public education events within the community.
**Position Summary**:At the request of a referral agency, provides emotional support, practical assistance and referrals to victims either at the scene or over the telephone. Maintains contact with the Team Leader at all times while on shift or at a crisis call, and communicates all acquired information to complete paperwork back to the Team Leader.
**Objectives**:To provide victims with valuable emotional support and referrals, based on their needs. To alleviate the stress of the referral agent by tending to the needs of the victim, freeing the agent to complete their work as necessary.
**Primary Responsibilities & Duties**:
- To be available and reachable at all times by cell phone while on shift.
- To respond immediately to requests for assistance by either attending the scene or contacting the victim by telephone, under the discretion of the Team Leader.
- To identify potential long-term needs and provide referrals, as required.
- To report to the Team Leader prior to (if on-scene) and following all calls. To report to the Team Lead upon arriving on-scene, and during the call to check in with the Team Lead if over 1 hour has passed since previous contact.
- To forward client contact reports to all staff members by 9am the next business day of the call.
- Debrief with your team leader after the call is completed.
**Qualifications**:
- Must be willing to commit to one year of service.
- Must be willing to commit to a minimum of four eight hour shifts per month, with one shift being on a Saturday or Sunday.
- Must attend all monthly Volunteer meetings.
- Must possess a valid driver’s licence, $1 million liability insurance and have access to reliable transportation.
- Must successfully complete a screening interview, reference and criminal records check, as well as the required Crisis Response training component program.
- Must be 19 years of age or older.
- Must be capable of maintaining confidentiality.
- Must be able and willing to work as a team member and take direction as required.
- Must have solid problem solving skills.
- Must have a healthy self-confidence, emotional and mental state.
- Must be able to display a professional behaviour and appearance at all times while representing Victim Services of Waterloo Region.
- Must have no history of/present abuse of alcohol or drugs.
- The ability to speak an additional language is a definite asset
**Job Types**: Casual, Part-time
**Salary**: $0.01-$0.02 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
