Advancement Officer

Overview:
**Term: 2 Years**
Reporting to the Director, Development & Alumni Relations, the Advancement Officer’s responsibilities are split between development (fundraising) and alumni relations activities. Responsibilities include a focus on building a strong alumni network, developing the donor pipeline, managing a wide range of engagement programs, developing and managing a volunteer engagement program, developing new initiatives and strategies to strengthen relations between alumni and the Faculty of Engineering and creating a culture of philanthropy among students and alumni.
**Responsibilities**:
Network Building & Donor Pipeline - 50%
- Organize and conduct 120+ calls/meetings per year with alumni with focus on volunteers and younger alumni (0-15 years out) and alumni network groups including but not limited to, Women in Tech, entrepreneurs, and start-up pledge donors with the goal of creating beneficial partnerships for the Faculty of Engineering
- Identify, and develop individual and group alumni cultivation and stewardship strategies
- Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of key regions
- Analyze regional pipelines to determine appropriate engagement strategies to move the Faculty’s priority prospects through the engagement and giving stages.
- Review regional engagement opportunities including events, workshops, and related activities; ensure donors are invited to participate in appropriate activities given their philanthropic giving and personal interests; and accurately document their participation
- Work closely with alumni networks with a particular focus on those with high-capacity/low-affinity; working closely with alumni relations, identify, develop, implement, and evaluate appropriate engagement programs, events and activities that can be leveraged for prospect engagement
- Ensure data updates are added to Raiser’s Edge on all prospect and volunteer activity
- Working with Director or Associate Director of Development, develop proposals for projects tailored to the specific interests of corporations, foundations, individuals or associations
- Identify and develop cultivation strategies for alumni with capacity to support the Faculty of Engineering’s priority fundraising initiatives
Student Engagement, Student-Alumni Bridge Program and Young alumni program management (40%)
- Manage student engagement, education and spirit building events including but not limited to Engineering Day, Give Thanks Day and potentially other events while continually evaluating the impact and effectiveness of the events
- Working with the Sr. Alumni Officer, manage the student to alumni bridge engagement, including Grad Class Toast, Convocation, engaging/inviting students to existing alumni events as appropriate
- Manage the Recent Engineering Alumni Council (REAC) under the strategy of the Senior Alumni Officer
- Compose and manage yearbook ads, WEAL wrappers, class composites, yearbooks, and other communication to students and young alumni
- Manage the Class Reps for Life program including engaging volunteers and creating a robust program of activities and duties for the volunteers, as well as recognizing them for their work
- 5-year and 10-year Reunion programming (work with REAC on implementing potential new ideas to engage this group)
- Continue to build on relationships with GradComm, EngSoc, WEEF, Engineering Graduate Committee, and other student groups as appropriate
Volunteer Management (10%)
- Manages volunteers, including the development and evaluation of volunteer opportunities.
- Develop and execute a volunteer recognition program (eg. National Volunteer Week, gifts/certificates, etc.)
- Working with the Development team and Sr. Alumni Officer, recruit and manage volunteers including but not limited for graduate and undergraduate student recruitment initiatives, guest speakers for the Departments, Engineering outreach initiatives, Class reps for life and other initiatives
- Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of volunteer partnership strategies, priorities, and objectives
- Develop and manage the volunteer record coding process for accurate engagement reporting and to feed into the CASE engagement reports

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required. Education or training related to communication and communication strategies preferred
- Five years of progressively responsible experience performing duties related to relationship development and management
- Demonstrated experience with developing, overseeing and evaluating alumni programs in a university environment is preferred
