Children's Counsellor

**Principal Duties**:
To carry out the responsibilities of a Children’s Counsellor in a 24-bed

shelter serving women leaving intimate partner abuse. This would include, but not be

limited to supportive counselling, supporting children in processing their trauma in

playroom sessions; intake of children coming into the shelter; safety planning, advocacy,

referrals, parental support, administration, as well as light household duties that support

residents during their stay at the shelter.

**Qualifications**:
Bachelor of Child Study Degree, equivalent area of study and/or

combination of experience with updated First Aid and CPR.
- Thorough knowledge of child developmental stages, work placement experience
- Understanding of the cycle of abuse and its impact on women and children
- Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Practice
- Crisis intervention experience and experience working with abused women and

their children
- Proven record of dependability and reliability in an employment setting.
- Proven skills development in working with children of varying ages (infants
- teens)
- Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer programs such as

Microsoft Word, etc.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage conflict within the workplace with

professionalism.

**Job Type**: Casual

Pay: $30.52-$37.52 per hour
