Women's Counsellor

**Principal Duties**:
To carry out the responsibilities of a Women’s Counsellor in a shelter serving women and their children leaving intimate partner violence.
Basic duties include, but are not limited to: answering the 24-hour distress/crisis line; intake for women and children entering the shelter; providing both crisis and supportive counselling, safety planning, advocacy, and referrals; as well as performing household duties that support residents during their stay at the shelter.
**Qualifications**:
- Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Community Studies, Psychology, and/or equivalent combination of training and experience, with current First Aid, NVCI, and CPR.
- Experience and knowledge of working with women and children who have experienced various levels of violence and trauma, as well as the basic principles of crisis intervention - de-escalation strategies.
- Proven track record of dependability and reliability in an employment setting
- Experience providing resources and support for individuals who use drugs and/or are in the process of recovery from addiction.
- Experience delivering services and support to people who have experienced trauma and are living with mental illness.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage conflict within the workplace with professionalism.
- Basic skills in the use of Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.
**Hours of Work**: Must be available to work continually throughout the year, called in as needed, and to work on an hourly basis, daytime, evening, and overnight shift work.
