A young adult male needs you to support him to achieve a rich, fulfilling and joyful life. This position offers you the opportunity to support an individual on the autism spectrum to meet communication, leisure, academic and vocational goals. Using evidence-based psychological methodology, this position involves the administration of a unique, extensive, and dynamic residential program. The individual being supported in this residential program is physically active, artistic/creative, and involved in the local community. This position requires a support person to accompany and facilitate him in these activities.
The successful applicant will provide support in the following areas:
Routinely (but not limited to):

- Running/jogging/power walking (~20 minute consistent pace)
- Swimming (endurance/consistent lane, deep water aquafit, lake swim)
- Cycling (Galloping Goose, Lochside, and other trails)
- Exercise/sport activities at local recreation centres/communities:
table tennis, badminton, pickle ball, yoga, Qigong, disc golf, driving range, golf (Par 3’s)
- Hiking (Provincial Parks: Mount Work, Gowlland Tod, Goldstream, etc)
- Assisting with various creative activities: basic woodwork, drawing, paper mache, clay work, rockhounding, journaling, Lego, baking/cooking
- Assisting client at movies, museums, art galleries and various other outings/venues around Victoria
- Supervising the client’s volunteer work within the community

Required/provided by the applicant, valid and current (ongoing) certification in:

- Standard First Aid (Epipen use included) with CPR C and AED
- Food Safe
- Valid BC Driver's License (class 5)
- Clean driver’s abstract
- B.C. Ministry Criminal Record Check

Extensive paid training and a high level of program supervision will be provided. In addition to thorough supervision, staff is provided a vehicle for all community outings. Staff will make and eat meals with the client throughout each shift. This allows staff to forgo packed meals to accommodate the client's food restrictions. Trained staff (after a three-month paid probationary period) currently earn $23.00 per hour for day shifts during their first year of employment. Staff are required to work a minimum of two scheduled shifts per week (currently six to eight hours each). Staff must also attend all team meetings and consultations (~1x per month=2-3 hours) with the client's Program Supervisor/BCBA consultant.

This workplace is COVID safe, as Provincial Health Office guidelines are followed relating to COVID precautions (Full Covid Vaccinated required). We have continued providing employment throughout the pandemic and will continue into the future, as our residential support staff are Essential Workers.
