About FIVE:
We provide behavior-analytic services for neurodivergent children and youth. We believe in celebrating our learner strengths, collaborating on goals, and creating learning opportunities that best support the needs and values of persons served.
About the Position:
The Behaviour Interventionist (BI) is a teacher who creates a safe and supportive learning environment for persons served and their guardians. The BI will provide direct teaching to neurodivergent learners using a combination of different teaching strategies selected through person-centred planning.
The successful candidate will:
- Love working with children and youth
- Be able to both work on your own as well as in a team atmosphere in a variety of settings (e.g., in their home, preschool, out-of-school care program, library or out in the community)
- Have a reliable mode of transportation and travel within greater Victoria and western communities.
- Be able to implement programming that has been created by a multidisciplinary team (e.g., Behaviour Analyst, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech & Language Pathologist).
- Able to give a one-year commitment. These kids need this
- Background in ABA (an asset, we also provide training)
- Have basic computer skills and access to a computer.
- Be dependable, have patience, good organizational skills as well as amazing play skills.
- Be able to take initiative and self advocate for support.
- Must be a clear and professional communicator, able to set boundaries
Responsibilities:
- Carefully implement programming that has been created in collaboration with their learner and their family. This includes following written recommendations, planning for generalization, and data collection.
- Encourage feedback on their learners' preferences & priorities, creating a supportive environment where their learners feel heard.
- Create a fun & exciting learning environment where the learners they support enjoy learning.
- Complete digital record keeping (e.g., sessions summaries, uploading permanent products or data, maintenance of their learning schedule, monitoring their hours, & day of billing).
- Maintaining adequate open and honest communication with the caregivers regarding expectations
- Assume responsibility for binder maintenance. This includes organization of teaching materials and printing data, or requesting caregivers to fulfill this task. If teaching materials are unavailable or missing, they will reach out to their Behaviour Analyst for direction.
Education and Experience:
- Have a post-secondary education in a related field; Psychology, ECE, Child and Youth Care, Special Education Assistant (Preferred)
- At least 1 year of previous experience with children or youth with diverse abilities. (Required)
- Background in ABA or tutoring services (beneficial, but not required).
- Be 19 years old or older.
- First aid (we will provide).
- Clear criminal record check with Vulnerable population (requirement).
- MANDT training (we will provide).
- Valid BC Driver's License
- "Business Use" car insurance & $3,000,000 Third-Party Liability Insurance (requirement).
Hours and Compensation:
- Based on previous experience and education $ per hour.
- Vacation paid out at 4%
- This is a part-time position with the potential to grow. Hours may vary based on operational needs.
- All staff who work at least 6 hrs per week have access to Dialogue, which provides staff support in and access to Primary Care, Mental Health, Wellness support, and Family & Relationship.
- Five paid sick days.
- Paid trainings (First Aid, MANDT, in house skill sharping)
- Partial coverage of travel costs.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.00-$23.00 per hour
