Laboratory Technician

Normal Hours of Work: 5:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m (7.5 hour day)

9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (7.5 hour day)

5:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. (7.5 hour day)
- Note: other hours may be required to work based on production schedule._

Work Conditions:
The laboratory technician will normally work from Monday to Friday. Weekend work is required during peak periods

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform analytical tests on flour and oat products as dictated by the laboratory sampling schedule.Results will be required to be communicated to other employees in the facility in an efficient and accurate manner.- Incumbent must have the ability to learn all finished product standards, adhere to them and the ability to interpret standards- Incumbent must have the ability to make pass/reject decisions using analytical data and comparing results to finished product standards.Rejection reports will be required to be documented in a timely fashion.Must ensure that the documentation of tests is recorded ethically, accurately and legibly.- Incumbent must have basic knowledge of laboratory analytical procedures including Moisture, muffle furnace Ash, titration, pH, Foss Near Infrared Analysis, Farinograph testing, Falling Number, Oats thickness and pick tests and other lab tests as assigned- Incumbent must be able to demonstrate accuracy on all analytical procedures by running all AM ULC and AACC cross check samples and producing results which fall within the Standard Limit of Error tolerance.- Incumbent must be committed to AM ULC laboratory safety policy and procedures- Incumbent must gather and prepare samples each month or as required for regulatory and microbiological analysis, as well as for on-going equipment calibration- Incumbent will be required to accurately and safely mix chemical reagents required for analytical testing.-
- Incumbent will be required to interact with customers in a professional and precise manner, as well as assisting in investigation of customer complaints.- Previous experience in food analysis or a post-secondary diploma in Food analysis/Food science is an asset and will be considered with priority- Incumbent must have a commitment to safety in the workplace, using the proper precautions to ensure the safety of themself and their co-workers and active participation in safety policies and program. Incumbent must also be knowledgeable about food safety policies and procedures within Ardent Mills.- All other duties as assigned by any salaried supervisor including duties assigned by the Senior Laboratory Technicians

Specialized Skills Required- Knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures and lab analytics- Adaptable to a fast-paced environment and must be strong on time management- Excellent oral and written communication and computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)- Required to work shifts (days, afternoons, midnights).Daily and weekend overtime as required- Ability to work with diverse groups- Attention to detail and keep details organized.- Accuracy - Demonstrated track record of producing consistently accurate information in an environment where information must be obtained and compiled without close guidance and supervision from others.- Ability to think quickly and make decisions based on facts- Academic Requirements - Completion of grade 12 High School.- BSc in Food related field (ex. Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, etc.) or equivalent community college courses in food processing or a minimum of 2 years experience in analytical lab setting is an asset

Team members must be clean shaven in order to perform tasks where respiratory protection is required and the use of a respirator (including N-95 dust mask) requires a proper seal for adequate protection.
