The **Valhalla Hotel & Conference Centre Thunder Bay** is currently recruiting for part time **Restaurant Servers.** The Server is responsible for creating a warm and friendly atmosphere and providing attentive and timely service while ensuring that all guests are served to the hotel’s standard in the Restaurant/Lounge areas. This position requires that the highest standards of hospitality and welcome are demonstrated at all times within all food and beverage areas. The Server is detail-oriented and passionate about creating exceptional guest experiences and providing outstanding customer service.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
**_Reporting to the F&B Director, the Server will: _**

- Greet guests on arrival in the restaurant and presents them with the menu upon seating.
- Informs guests about the special items for the day and menu changes, if any.
- Demonstrates knowledge of all menu items, in house specials, promotions, etc. and utilize upselling techniques to maximize revenue
- Engage with guest, provide recommendations on menu and drink offerings, including preparation and ingredients with a focus on guest experience and upselling
- Responsible for taking food and beverage orders and/or drink or cocktail requests from the guest on the order taking pads or on the handheld Point of sale ( POS ) system.
- Punches the order on the POS machine and makes sure to communicate special requirements made by the guest while ordering.
- Serve/replenish and or clear food, and beverages
- Prepare and serve drink or cocktail requests
- Accurately total, process and collect payments from guests to include, but not limited to, using the point-of-sale system, handling money, processing credit and debit cards, making change, processing gift certificates, room charges
- Issues receipts, accepts payment, returns change.
- Performs basic cleaning tasks such as wiping tables, chairs, vacuuming, cleaning floors as needed, or directed by supervisor.
- Comply with all Provincial Liquor and Gaming Regulations
- Respond to telephone inquiries, room service orders and reservation requests
- Communicates to the guest and provides assistance with their queries.
- Co-ordinates with the kitchen staff, bar staff, and other departments as required to ensure smooth operation and guest satisfaction.
- Observes guests to ensure their satisfaction with the food and service.
- Promptly responds to guests with any additional requests.
- Maintains proper dining experience, delivering items in a timely and proper manner, fulfilling customer needs, removing courses, replenishing utensils, refiling glasses.
- Properly open and pour wine at the tableside, as applicable.
- Adheres to grooming and appearance standards consistently.
- Understands and can communicate products and services available at the hotel.
- Must have some familiarity with basic cooking skills.
- Assists with stocking and maintaining the restaurant par stock levels and side stations.
- Helps other areas of the restaurant as needed - ie answering telephones and completing financial transactions.
- Enter payment including direct billing, vouchers, gift certificates as required
- Prints closing report and drops the cash with the front office / accounts department.
- Tallies the Credit Card settlements for the day with the batch closing report.
- Close the shift on the POS terminal.
- Work with all supporting departments to ensure a seamless experience for our guests, ensuring our vision of passionate people creating exceptional experiences is at the forefront of every interaction;
- Collaborate with other departments in the hotel in order to maximize revenue, efficiencies and guest service satisfaction
- Maintain a friendly, professional and productive working relationship with co-workers and management from all departments
- Assist all guests in a sincere courteous manner, whenever possible going the extra mile and doing whatever it takes to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Understand and comply with all health and safety rules, regulations and laws. Report unsafe acts or hazardous conditions, report all workplace incidents/accidents or near misses, wearing all Personal Protective Equipment required, and participate in the fire safety plan;
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings
- Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by the Director of F&B and/or designate.
**Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to)**:
- Constant standing and walking throughout shift;
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs;
- Occasionally lifting more than 50 lbs;
- Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps;
- Ability to reach with hands and arms in any direction and kneel and stoop repeatedly.

- Must be able to move, lift, carry and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 lbs without assistance, and in excess of 30 lbs with assistance;
