**Job Role**

Reporting to the **Community Manager**and/or designate, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for developing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating recreational programming and special events that align with the six Dimensions of Wellness model: physical, mental, spiritual, cultural, vocational, and social well-being of each resident.

**Job Duties**

1. Develop, implement, coordinate, and schedule all recreation programs and events to meet the individual and group needs of residents;
2. Ensure recreation programs and events meet the emotional, psychological, physical, social, and spiritual needs of all residents;
3. Involve residents in the planning of activities and events. Encourage residents to volunteer their unique skills to enhance activity participation;
4. Develop and maintain appropriate communication methods for programs, services, and events, including the site newsletter, bulletins, and meetings designed to provide residents with information related to programs and special events;
5. Encourage and motivate residents/tenants to participate in social, spiritual, physical, mental, and cultural recreational activities;
6. Assist residents to and from programs as required;
7. Observe and report any resident cognitive or physical changes to the Area Manager or designate;
8. Coordinate the Volunteer Program, including recruiting, interviewing, screening, training, monitoring, directing, supporting, evaluating, and maintaining a personnel file containing appropriate documentation for each volunteer;
9. Ensure staff members are aware of upcoming events through written bulletins or memos;
10. Actively participate in the Recreation Coordinator Working Group meetings by sharing ideas, implementing new strategies, providing meaningful feedback encouraging consistent programming and collaboration throughout the organization;
11. Consult and coordinate events and activities with other departments to ensure enough resources to meet the needs of the scheduled events. Resources may include food service, provision of equipment and furniture, or additional staff;
12. Set up and complete tasks associated with events, activities, programs, and special occasions;
13. Contact vendors, music services, churches, community groups, etc. to volunteer and/or assist in specific program activities;
14. In collaboration with the Recreation Coordinators at other sites, organize, participate in and/or arrange for specific activities/programs/education with the celebrated campaign, e.g., Seniors Week; Volunteer Appreciation; Fall Prevention;
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**

**Education, Training, and Experience**
- Strong English communication skills are required; both written and verbal;
- A post-secondary certificate in recreation therapy or related field; or
- Three to five years of previous related experience in event coordination or community programming;
- Proficient working knowledge of Office 365, including Publisher and PowerPoint;
- First Aid and CPR certification is required or must be attained within three months of hire;
- Clear Vulnerable Sector - Criminal Record Check;

- Proven leadership, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills;
- Ability to effectively multi-task, manage time effectively, and prioritize work;
- Ability to anticipate needs and take the initiative to complete work in the absence of direct supervision and constant direction;
- Strong communication skills and professionalism when dealing with residents and the public;
- Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy, empathy, and patience in providing quality services to residents; and
- Attention to detail and problem solving
