SGC is looking for a full time Heavy Equipment Operator with a good work ethic and a DZ/AZ license who demonstrates safe work habits and strong oral and written communication skills.

**Responsibilities and Accountabilities**

As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be required to operate various equipment (excavator, bulldozer, backhoe, skid steer, telehandler, hydro excavation, etc.). A DZ/AZ license is required for driving dump, line and digger trucks with floats and heavy equipment. You will be required to perform other job-related tasks as assigned including hydro excavation equipment operation.

**Responsibilities**:

- Manage vehicles and their actions; responsible for identifying weights as to not exceed vehicle requirements
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently up to 9 tons
- Digging holes, trenches and pulling cable
- Maintain machines (clean, grease, inspection) as per direction from the on-staff mechanics
- Load and unload heavy equipment in a secure and damage free manner
- Perform daily circle checks of machinery and report defect promptly
- Transport cargo and/or equipment utilizing various combinations of truck and trailer
- Operating tools and equipment and supporting site crew as required
- General site preparation and clean up as required
- Maintain a high standard of professional knowledge, ethics and practices when dealing with customers, suppliers, peers, subordinates, supervisors and other key stakeholders of the company
- Other responsibilities and accountabilities as assigned

**Health and Safety**:

- Operate machines using safe work habits
- Maintain and use appropriate personal protective equipment
- Complete all onsite safety documentation including but not limited to equipment inspections, jobsite hazard analysis, tailboard talks, traffic control, etc.
- Maintain working knowledge of all Health & Safety policies
- Support and promote all aspects of the corporate Health & Safety program
- Report all accidents/incidents promptly, participate in investigation & act on recommendations

**Qualifications**
- 3+ years’ experience
- Must hold a valid DZ/AZ driver’s license with a clean driver abstract (AZ preferred)
- Ability to operate all transmission types an asset
- Safety certification considered an asset (Book 7, Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR, Confined Space, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance)
- Hardworking, motivated, and reliable
- Quick learner, team player and capable of working under tight deadlines and in a fast pace environment
- Knowledge of Forklift and telehandler operation an asset
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety Act and regulations
- Excellent communication skills in English

**Working Conditions**
- Fast-paced environment
- PPE required
- Must be able to hear and distinguish emergency signals and instructions
- Must be able to physically lift material up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to repetitively sit, lift, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, reach and crawl
- You will be exposed to environmental conditions such as hot and cold temperatures, work areas that are dirty, dusty, wet and noisy
- Work outside in all seasonal conditions
- Must be able to climb ladders, and work from stationary platforms from elevated heights
- Must be able to work independently or in a team environment
- Overtime may be required

**Salary**: $26.00-$38.00 per hour
