Equipment Operator

The Township of Georgian Bay is a growing water-based community located in the District of Muskoka along the eastern shore of beautiful Georgian Bay. The Township has a permanent resident population of approximately 3,500 and an additional seasonal population of around 17,500. Overview: We are looking for an Equipment Operator to join our team. This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery and equipment to support construction, maintenance, and operational activities. This role requires a strong understanding of safety protocols, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work in various weather and site conditions.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Perform road maintenance activities including hot and cold patch repairs, grading of roads and shoulders, repair of washouts due to storms, roadside mowing, repair/maintenance of road signage, culvert replacement and repairs, and sweeping of roads.
• Snowplowing, salting, and sanding of Township and District roads, sidewalks, and parking lots during the winter season.
• Perform circle checks on equipment/vehicles and maintain logbooks, traffic protection plans, and more.
• Road reconstruction including the packing and rebuilding of roads as well as the pick-up, hauling, and dumping of raw materials. Set-up and tear down of traffic protection and flag person duties. Float equipment and blast rocks.
• Maintain shop and equipment. Respond to public requests for service, as assigned.
• Assist the Parks and Facilities division with lawn care, trail and cemetery maintenance, and other repairs, as necessary.

Knowledge/experience:

• Secondary School Diploma.
• Three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment operations.
• Valid Ontario Class DZ Drivers Licence with the ability to provide a satisfactory drivers abstract upon hire.
• Physically capable of lifting 40lbs, bending, standing, walking, cleaning, pushing/pulling, and reaching.
• Willingness to participate in additional training, as required.

Wage rate: $29.38 to $32.10 per hour, based on a 40-hour workweek.
