The Heavy Equipment Operator 4, 3, 2 and 1 is directly accountable to the Mine Operations Foreman
**RESPONSIBILITIES & PERFORMANCE STANDARDS**
- Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way, conforming to all relevant legislation, policies, operating manuals and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure that equipment operation is maintained in keeping with production targets.
- Troubleshoot problems, perform minor maintenance as required, and notify the supervisor of any mechanical or production issues throughout the shift.
- Complete daily reports and time sheets as required.
- Attend and participate in toolbox meetings.
- Notify the supervisor immediately of any incident or near-miss and participate in any resulting investigation.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks as required.
- **_ No camp available, you are required to hold residence, on some level, in the town of Grande Cache for the duration of your work rotation_**
**SPECIFIC CLASSIFICATIONS**
HEO 4 - Employees without prior qualifications (experience, demonstrated knowledge and abilities) will enter the HEO 4 classification. Employees will initially receive training on safety and emergency procedures and will learn and become proficient on haulage truck operation.
HEO 3 - After a minimum of 1040 hours in the HEO 4 classification, an employee who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability required by the function will be advanced to the HEO 3 classification. Employees will operate haulage trucks and receive training on related auxiliary equipment such as the water truck.
HEO 2 - Vacancies in the HEO 2 classification will be posted. Employees in the HEO 3 classification (including employees possessing the qualifications required by the HEO 3 classification) will be eligible to bid on the posting. The successful applicant will receive the HEO 3 classification rate of pay while receiving training on dozer or grader. After a minimum of 1040 hours in the HEO 3 classification, an employee who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability required by the function will be advanced to the HEO 2 classification. Employees in the HEO 2 classification will operate dozer or grader and receive training on other equipment such as grader, dozer, rubber tired dozer and small loaders and excavators.
HEO 1 - Vacancies in the HEO 1 classification will be posted. Employees in the HEO 2 classification (including employees possessing the qualifications required by the HEO 2 classification) will be eligible to bid on the posting. The successful applicant will receive the HEO 2 classification rate of pay while receiving training on large loaders or excavators. After a minimum of 1040 hours of training and operating experience, an employee who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability required by the function will be advanced to the HEO 1 classification. Employees in the HEO 1 classification will operate large loaders or excavators and receive training on other loading and excavating equipment.
Drill Operator & Shovel Operator - Vacancies in the Drill Operator and Shovel Operator classifications will be posted. Employees in the HEO 1 classification (including employees possessing the qualification required by the HEO 1 classification) will be eligible to bid on the posting. After a minimum of 1040 hours of training and operating experience, an employee who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability required by the function will be advanced to the Drill Operator or Shovel Operator classification, as applicable.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Education
- Some high school education is required, a grade 12 diploma or GED is preferred;
Experience
- Industrial experience operating mine equipment is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Except for entry level (HEO 4) hires, the following knowledge, skills and abilities are expected:
- Knowledge of safety procedures/standards.
- Knowledge of coal production and equipment operation processes.
- Knowledge of mobile heavy equipment names
- Knowledge of basic equipment maintenance requirements
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets.
- Knowledge of Basic First Aid and WHMIS.
