Grande Prairie is a great place to live, work, and play.Our Engineering & Transportation Department is looking for a dedicated Heavy Equipment Operator to join the team.Position ResponsibilitiesThe main duties for this position includes plowing snow on priority roadways with a team of graders and loaders maintaining safe passage of traffic.Heavy Equipment Operator (EOII)Operates And Is Responsible For The FollowingMotor Grader with attachmentsTandem Plow Truck with Sand/Salt spreader and attachments including WingFront End Loader with attachmentsBackhoe LoaderBidirectional Flail MowersSnow Blowers (Min 7' width)Self Propelled Asphalt PaverVacuum Eductor TruckLine Painting UnitBroce BroomTandem Axle Water TruckAerial Lift or Bucket Truck (>35 feet extension)Other similar equipmentOther duties as assignedStreet Sweeper (3 cubic yards and over)QualificationsValid Alberta Drivers License (Class 3 with Air Brakes Endorsement).Knowledge of operation and maintenance of a Motor Grader, Street Sweeper, and Loader.2 years experience operating equipment of similar size.Experience in all aspects of Sweeping Operations, Gravel Roads Operations, Asphalt Operations and Snow Removal Operations.Ability to work on shifts that supply 24/7 coverage during winter operations.Assets Related To This Position IncludeKnowledge of other Transportation Crews duties.Certification in First Aid and WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.Basic Computer Skills.High School Diploma or equivalency.Ability to become skilled at operating other equipment as required.The Transportation Department is a multi-task weather dependent department. The successful candidate may be required to perform other duties as required on a day to day basis. May be required to participate in standby rotation.Equipment operator test will be part of application processes.HoursThe standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.CompensationStarting salary $38.87 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.BenefitsComprehensive benefits package.
