WCWC provides education and support to water system owners, operators, operating authorities, First Nations communities, and the public. We are looking for a talented HR Advisor to join our wonderful team at Walkerton Clean Water Centre.
**Position Summary**
This position takes ownership of the Centre’s Human Resources activities, partnering with the Centre’s Management Team to ensure exceptional employee relations and engagement, recruitment and retention, training and development, policy and procedure development, health and safety, compensation, and equity. Further, this position participates in employee benefit negotiations with benefit providers to ensure meaningful, competitive benefits for our team.
This position must ensure that all Human Resources activities are compliant with all Centre and provincial legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines, and directives. This position reports directly to the Director of Strategic Growth & Planning.
**Responsibilities**
- ** HR Policy and Program Administration**
Working with the Management Team, develops and implements HR policies, programs, strategies, and initiatives, ensuring compliance with applicable government directives and legislation. Such programs will include disability and accommodations management, time and attendance management, enterprise risk management, emergency preparedness and planning, health and safety programs and responsibilities (Joint Health and Safety Committee), accessibility, and HR file management.
- ** Employee Relations and Development**
Working with the Management Team, develops, oversees, and participates in employee recruitment and onboarding processes. Fosters and assesses employee engagement and related initiatives (e.g., surveys, and one-on-one meetings). Ensures all staff adhere to the respectful workplace policy and acts as mediator and/or investigator when required. Acts as the Administrator for, and assists with the Centre’s performance planning and review program and staff training and professional development initiatives. Provides guidance and advice for the CEO and Management Team.
- ** Compensation and Administration**
Administers the Centre’s pension and benefit programs. Provides research and recommendations on the design of compensation plans (e.g., comparison surveys). Evaluate and assist in the organizational staffing plan, and update job descriptions
- ** People Management**
In support of Departmental managers, coaches staff where necessary for performance improvement, or career development.
- ** Management Team**
As required, participates in management meetings, and contributes to strategic and operational planning for the Centre. Prepares all required human resources reports.
Additional duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Director of Strategic Planning & Growth.
**Education & Experience**
- A minimum of 6 years working in a human resources role is required, including at least two years of experience in a mid-level human resources role (e.g., Human Resources Partner, Human Resources Consultant, Human Resources Generalist).
- Experience in full-cycle recruitment and leading recruitment efforts is a strong asset.
- This position requires a minimum university Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Communications, or equivalent and a certified Human Resources designation (e.g., CHRP, PHR, SHRM-CP or CPTD).
- Strong working knowledge of applicable legislation including the Employment Standards Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), and Freedom of Information and Personal Privacy Act (FIPPA).
- Good working knowledge of the use of Human Resources Information Systems and recruitment software.
- Knowledge of Ontario Public Service (OPS) human resources-related directives to ensure that the Centre’s human resources policies, procedures, and programs are compliant and complete would be a strong asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.
