**SUMMARY OF POSTION**

**This position is a CANADA SUMMER JOBS short term position intended for the summer. You must be between the ages of 18 - 29 in order to qualify.**

Responsible to the Executive Director of Nova House and directly reporting to the Staff Supervisor in accordance with Nova House’s mission, vision, goals, policies, and procedures. The Support Worker functions as a member of a team in providing services designed to assist women and children in crisis from domestic and/or family violence. The support worker will adhere to the values and mandates of Nova House and support the strategic direction of the organization. Every effort will be made to maintain standards and best practices that strive from a client-centered and strength focused philosophy and that encourages self-awareness, self-worth, confidence building, and increased independence without judgement and that is in the best interest of the women and children we serve.

**EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS**
- Basic Knowledge of working in a professional environment
- Basic knowledge of working with children
- Ability to work as a member of a team with mínimal supervision, be motivated and have initiative
- Ability to assist in all departments of the shelter i.e. cooking, cleaning, childcare
- Demonstrate ability to answer crisis calls, work in an office setting and input data into a database system
- Clear criminal record check, with vulnerable persona and child abuse registry check
- To qualify you must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age and meet all Canada Summer Jobs requirements.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES**
- Clear understanding of confidentiality, boundary management
- Assist with Shelter duties such as answer general phone calls
- Assist with general office duties accurate and timely data entry and maintain required computer skills.
- Assist with the health and safety of our clients such as cooking and cleaning, and childcare
- Help to maintain the Nova House residence which includes general cleaning, cooking, sorting and storage organization, sanitizing areas and toys
- Provide child minding, set up, prepare childcare room, activities, and learning projects
- Able to attend and assist families and staff on supervised outings
- Assist with life skills groups, which may include baking, cooking, and gardening
- Able to perform light landscaping duties such as weeding, lawn mowing, and back yard clean up
- Able to resolve and mediate conflict and/or deal with frustration and anger using non-violent techniques, critical thinking, and sound judgement.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 8 weeks

**Salary**: From $15.85 per hour
