**Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Communicating with clients, witnesses, and opposing counsel, as well as general management of the clients.
- Receiving assignments for litigation matters, including accident benefits matters.
- Gathering, assessing, and cataloguing evidence.
- Drafting pleadings, correspondence, affidavits and affidavits of documents.
- Preparing clients for examinations for discovery, as well as preparing pre-trial memoranda and working closely with the responsible lawyer on the file.
- Organizing and maintaining document briefs.
- Docketing time using PC Law software.
- Some travel may be required. It is principally in Northeastern Ontario, but occasionally beyond, if continuing legal education is involved.
- Other duties as required.

**Skills and abilities are valued. It is anticipated that the qualities will be expanded on through ongoing training and hands on experience working with the Lawyers and Law Clerks of the firm. Those skills will include**:

- Understanding how to prioritize tasks and advance files appropriately.
- Refinement of organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- A knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and a motivation to have that knowledge expanded on through training and continuing legal education.
- Some knowledge and proficiency with Court procedures and communicating within a Court setting.
- The ability to be resourceful in working with either mínimal instruction or under supervision and participating with the directing Lawyer to problem-solve.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Being proactive and taking initiative in anticipation of the next steps.
- Motivation to expand the knowledge of working with PC Law, Microsoft Office, and Adobe software.

**Qualifications as noted above will be expanded on through training from hands on learning and congeniality. Assets would include**:

- Experience in handling personal injury matters and/or accident benefits matters, the completion of a Paralegal or Law Clerk program, and a working knowledge of legal terminology and familiarity with some legal documents. These assets are just that and if absent, the real asset will be the motivation to learn and work.
