Instructor - Elementary Generalist (Pt / Contract)

**About us**:LDS - Learn. Develop. Succeed. (LDS) is a growing, innovative, research-based, nonprofit charity serving children, youth and adults with diagnosed or suspected learning differences like dyslexia, written-output disorders, ADHD and more.

In collaboration with academic institutions, LDS offers individualized, evidence-based programs that target student-specific learning needs. Our growing programs and services operate online, from our Learning Centres in East Vancouver and North Vancouver, in-school locations, and our mobile classroom.

We provide affordable programs to ensure that all children, youth and adults have an opportunity to realize their full potential. Through early intervention, we support students at a critical time, leading to profound, positive changes in student life outcomes. We are scaling up our organization and services to effect system change with material and wide-ranging societal benefits.

**Locations**:

- Access Mobile Classroom in Southeast Vancouver on Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30-6:30 for an elementary generalist

**Our Instructors**:Our instructors are experienced educators with a passion for making learning accessible, engaging, and possible for learners who find learning difficult and have skills and experience in delivering instruction in at least one of the following three academic areas: reading, writing and/or math.
- We are actively looking for two elementary generalists (instructional skills for teaching math and literacy topics for learners in kindergarten to grade 7) for our Access mobile classroom in the Southeast Vancouver area / East 41st between Victoria Drive and Rupert Street on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-6:30pm (days and times are firm). Can be combined with more availability in our East Vancouver location or online on other days.

**Contract/Part-time**:8-20+ hours a week. Minimum availability is from 4:30 - 7:30pm on two weekday afternoons/evenings. Hours available are Monday to Friday between 2:30 and 7:30pm and/or Saturdays between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Strong preference will be given to those who can offer Saturday availability.

**Remuneration**:Contractors**:$28.00 to $33.00 per hour, professional development opportunities.

**Instructor Responsibilities**:

- Deliver one-to-one instruction to help bridge foundational skills gaps for students
- Administer assessments to help identify gaps in student’s learning
- Work with evidenced-based curricula to develop lesson plans based on assessments
- Set goals and objectives for each student with the support of a Case Manager
- Write progress reports for students
- Provide brief session summaries to parents/families
- Be punctual to all student sessions
- Attend instructor in-services and workshops throughout the year
- Contribute to our team learning and be an advocate for learning differences and our work in the community

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field with educational experience
- Experience working with children with diagnosed or suspected learning differences
- Ability to use assessment strategies and instruments to identify gaps in learning
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Experience teaching in two or more of the following areas: reading, writing and/or mathematics
- An understanding of the BC curriculum
- An understanding of structured literacy (for literacy instructors; please describe this in your cover letter)
- Orton-Gillingham training or other structured literacy experience (asset)
- Experience working with adult learners (asset)
- Experience managing complex behavioural profiles (asset)
- Criminal record check with the vulnerable sector
- Eligibility to work in Canada

**Accessibility**: Our Access Mobile Classroom remains stationary at it's designated location in East Van and is fully equipped with heat/AC, wifi, tables, learning games and equipment, and interior lighting to make learning as welcoming for learners and instructors.
