**Reporting Relationship**

This position reports to the Director, Human Resources.

**Position Overview**

This position provides advice, guidance, and assistance to management and employees to facilitate the implementation and alignment with Saskatoon Public Library’s (SPL) Occupational Health and Safety system and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation. This position supports the enhancement of a positive health and safety culture.

**Key Duties**

1.Builds relationships with all SPL employees by guiding, mentoring and providing field level safety support to ensure all work is completed in a safe manner.

2.Assists in the maintenance and implementation of SPL Occupational Health and Safety policies, guidelines, procedures and programs to enhance the culture of safety and ensure compliance with legislation.

3.Processes WCB claims and oversees related internal procedures for employee accommodations and return to work plans.

4.Supports monitoring and compliance by reviewing or auditing work observations, procedures, incidents and inspections completed by employees and supervisors and provides mentorship where applicable.

6.Supports a safe working environment by ensuring health and safety administrative processes are followed and coordinating, creating, and/or conducting health and safety training when required.

7.Supports the determination and prioritization of health and safety issues and initiatives by providing on-site and system-wide feedback on Occupational Health & Safety programs and trends to the Director, HR and stakeholders.

8.Provides support when attending safety incidents where there has beensignificant damages, loss or injury. For all safety incidents, provides guidancewith processes and recommend corrective actions to prevent futureincidents.

9.Participates in and periodically leads project-based work.

11.Performs other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
- Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety plus two years' related experience in

field level or on-site safety.

OR

Successful completion of a recognized, two-year, post-secondary related

diploma program plus four years' related experience in field level or on-site

safety.
- Considerable knowledge of provincial legislation pertaining to occupational

health and safety, and workers’ compensation and the duty to accommodate.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, design, coordinate and present safety-related

training programs.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct investigations, determine hazardous

conditions and take corrective action.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of confidentiality and trust.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with

management, co-workers, union representatives and external agencies.
- Skill in consulting, facilitating, conflict resolution and decision-making would

be considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Acceptable criminal record check.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 18 months

**Salary**: $76,581.84-$89,985.84 per year

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
