**How You'll Spend Your Time**:
As a **Resettlement Assistance Program Worker**, your primary duties will be providing settlement and local integration supports to Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) arriving in Canada. The RAP team provides orientation, education and support on basic life skills of living in Canada, as well as managing scheduling and support with Medical appointment set up. You will collaborate with internal and external partners to provide support and education for clients in relation to their settlement, health & wellness, family, housing, and access to relevant programming and support services with the goal of their successful integration into the local community, within the first year following their arrival.
This role collaborates across departments to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote IRSA’s vision, mission and core values.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develops and implements appropriate individualized settlement plans outlining a strategy to achieve success based on identified needs, available services and community supports for GAR families and individuals while helping identify and overcome potential barriers.
- Maintains professional, informed, trust-based relationships throughout this process with GAR clients.
- Monitors the ongoing settlement plan to ensure clients are on target, and adjusts plans, if necessary, to meet client needs as they arise.
- Provides orientation services based on the assessed needs of the client to ensure basic access to and awareness of Canada, PEI, and the local community. (examples include public systems and services such as housing, health, transportation, education, and legal rights and responsibilities, etc).
- Provides practical support for daily life (as required) including hygiene, housekeeping, financial literacy (banking), shopping, parenting, technology, cultural norms.
- Provides basic training on cleaning, food storage, garbage disposal and other general life skills (as required).
- Accompanies GARs to bank, shopping, community centre, post office, and other local services (as required), monitoring progress and providing coaching and support towards independent access to each.
- Observes and supervises families to ensure they can adequately take care of their settlement needs, ensuring they can function independently, safely and confidently with general life skills and cultural norms they have been provided training on.
- Collaborate with RAP and Settlement teams to ensure adequate, timely and quality responses to client’s questions and needs on an ongoing basis
- Acts as strong client advocate, refers clients/volunteers to internal and external support programs and services, including navigation of government systems, and community resources, as determined through needs assessments.
- Provides supportive para counselling, referrals and information to empower clients to solve and cope with challenges arising from newcomer resettlement in Canada.
