Under the supervision of the Daycare Supervisor, the assistant educator/daycare teacher must work as part of a team to provide quality educational services/programs to a group of children aged 18 months to 12 years while understanding the needs of each child.

The assistant educator/teacher has full responsibility for the children in care. Interventions and planning must respect the four foundations of learning: belonging, well-being, engagement, and expression in order to create a culture of continuous learning for both children and adults (professionals, partners and families) who attend the centre.
- Works with resource staff and other specialists to plan and implement stimulating development programs in an organized manner for children from eighteen months to twelve years of age.
- Effectively supervises children in their activities and routines, guiding them in their physical, social, and emotional growth.
- Responsible for being aware of each child’s needs and planning to accommodate them.
- Provides activities, which are appropriate and flexible according to the program statement.
- Performs a visual inspection of each child as they arrive each day and reports any concerns to the Daycare Supervisor.
- Demonstrates teaching techniques which reflects specific program philosophy and model appropriate methods for student observations and practice; directs placement students in practice teaching situations; do review sessions and evaluation forms.
- Attends meetings, workshops, completes any necessary training, etc.
- Maintains a current knowledge of all relevant provincial statutes and regulations and all relevant by-laws dealing with daycare services and related topics.
- Reports all accidents, injuries and illnesses to the supervisor or designate and records such incidents in daily logbook, playground log and serious occurrence, if necessary. Reports all incidents of suspected child abuse to supervisor.
- Interacts with parents on a regular basis to discuss their children’s early learning and development. Maintains confidentiality of all information related to the center’s children, families, and staff.
- During an emergency, declared or otherwise, staffing requirements can be critical. The employee will be available to work irregular hours performing normal tasks or others, as assigned.
- Carries out any other related duties, as may be assigned by the Daycare Supervisor, including carrying out responsibilities of the supervisor as the designate when requested.

**Required Qualifications and Work Experience**
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology or a diploma in ECE from a college or university recognized by the Director of the Ministry of Education or an academic equivalent of the OECE in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act;
- Hold a valid first aid certificate;
- Have an up-to-date immunization record;
- Obtain a criminal background check;
- Be a member in good standing of the OECE;
- Be bilingual.
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
- Good communications and interpersonal skills. Must be able to interact with children, parents, and other staff. Must be fluently bilingual.
- Willingness to regularly update training and knowledge. Interest in new technology where it
