**About YouthLink**

We are a not-for-profit organization, and a partner of the Calgary Police Services (CPS), where we aim to educate our program participants and visitors about crime prevention, forensic science, and the Calgary Police Service history within Calgary. YouthLink is unique in offering one-day school field trips, full-day camps, week-long police school, and an after-school newcomers’ program. YouthLink staff strive to build meaningful relationships between youth and police. **The Role of a YouthLink Summer Camp Leader**

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, under the supervision of the Program Manager, YouthLink Summer Camp Leaders are responsible for leading 8 weeks of summer camp programming to children ages 6-12 years. Summer Camp Leaders must have exceptional front-line, interpersonal communication skills and experience working with children and/or youth. YouthLink Summer Camp Leaders will be trained to deliver summer camp activities and programs focused on numerous topics including policing, team building and forensic science. They will be responsible for ensuring that camp participants have an experience that is safe, fun, engaging, meaningful and inclusive. Further responsibilities include:

- Communicate effectively and respectfully with campers, parents and staff members.
- Support and supervise groups of campers in day-to-day activities.
- Facilitate creative and engaging activities and games for campers that are inclusive, safe and age appropriate.
- Implements conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques to manage a crisis or conflict between campers.
- Responsible for set up and clean-up of camps each day.
- Enforce camp rules such as to established safety and behavior standards, to ensure the safety of all campers and the YouthLink grounds.
- Demonstrate care and active listening when working with summer campers, such to cultivate meaningful and impactful relationships.

**Education & Experience**:

- A University or College degree, or working towards, (may include education, early childhood development and education, museum studies/interpretation, arts, or social work).
- Experience with school program delivery and/or working with children and/or youth.
- Experience working in a summer camp or children’s camp setting would be considered an asset.
- First Aid training is considered an asset.

**Skill Requirements**:

- Passion for and commitment to working with children.
- Ability to be flexible and have high energy when working with children.
- Interpersonal skills: effective communication (verbal and written); non-judgmental listening skills; ability to deal with people from diverse backgrounds and identities, must be able to work as part of a team; must show initiative.
- Time management and problem-solving skills: Must be able to adapt and solve problems/make decisions as they arise.
- Previous experience with Microsoft Office Suite considered an asset.

**Additional Information**:
○ Mandatory Training June 16 - 27, 2025 (weekends not included)

○ Camp: July 2 to August 22 (weekly)
- This is a full-time position working a 40-hour work week, from Monday to Friday. The person in this position may be asked to work weekends and evenings on occasion and may be asked to attend external presentations and events.
- A CPS enhanced security clearance and vulnerable sector check will be required for this position.

**This position is a grant funded position through the Canada Summer Jobs and/or the Canadian Heritage Young Canada Works grant program.**
- Are a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada; Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
- Are legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Will be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment.
- Will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed.
- Have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the job.
- Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the job.
