The purpose of this position is to assist dental public health oral health professionals using the 4-handed dentistry technique to manage patients, and/or provide preventive dental services to children and other at-risk population groups in Prince Edward Island under the supervision of a dentist or dental hygienist. The position may also serve as receptionist in the dental clinics as well as administrative support for the Provincial Dental Care Program. The position will require the ability to travel to alternate locations for work (i.e. to schools, long term care facilities, etc.)

**Duties will include but not limited to**:

- Assisting dentists and dental hygienists in the delivery of dental and preventative services;
- Cleaning, sterilizing instruments, and setting up the instrument tray and treatment areas;
- Taking dental x-rays;
- Providing dental health education to children and/or parents, and/or other at-risk population groups on proper diet and oral hygiene, including proper flossing and brushing techniques;
- Managing appointment schedules, replying to general inquiries, and ensuring the efficient flow of daily work routine in a dental clinic (mobile and fixed site clinics) for all provincial dental programs, including the school preventative program and the Provincial Dental Care Program;
- Maintaining patient charts and recording of treatment, which must include experience using electronic dental records;;
- Receiving payments, issuing receipts and preparing bank deposits;
- Updating class lists on computer for the school preventative program;
- Other duties as required.

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- The successful applicant must have successful completion of Grade 12 and successful completion of recognized Dental Assistant Course.
- Must be eligible for Annual Registration with the Dental Council of PEI
- Must have current dental assistant experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
- The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record.
- Must have access to reliable transportation.
- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $26.63-$28.96 per hour

Expected hours: 75 per week
