Communications Coordinator

**Scope of the Position**
Under the supervision of the Manager, Communications, the Communications Coordinator will support the planning and execution of a broad range of Nch’ḵay̓’s communications and engagement efforts.
The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for event coordination and on-site activation, assist in the creation of reports and promotional materials, contribute to the development of digital content (for web, social media, and e-newsletters), monitor and track key metrics, organize meetings and presentations, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
This is an ideal opportunity for a Squamish Person, or other Indigenous Person, to collaborate closely with a team of passionate communications and engagement professionals, playing a key role in supporting all the ways we work to inform, and engage with, our primary audience—the Squamish People.
**Duties, Responsibilities, Authority, and Accountabilities**
- Writing, editing, and basic graphic design: Producing internal and external materials including community newsletter updates, e-newsletters, fact sheets, posters, presentations, social media content, and website content.
- Event coordination: Planning and logistics, preparing materials, managing SWAG, site set-up and tear-down, and staffing our booth at events.
- Data entry & tracking: Maintaining subscriber lists, tracking attendance and engagement at events, etc.
- Media monitoring: Tracking and cataloguing relevant media coverage, summarizing key points, monitoring tone and sentiment, and flagging notable news items.
- Social media: Support with social media content creation (including photography and video), analytics, SEO optimization, and day-to-day social media monitoring.
- Website updates: Publishing approved content to our Wordpress-hosted website.
- Meeting support: Assist with planning and executing internal and external meetings, including arranging catering, preparing and distributing materials, note-taking, and following up on action items.
- Digital asset management: Uploading assets to our new digital asset management system, tagging photos and videos with metadata, creating and organizing folders, etc.
- Brand compliance: Ensures that internal and external stakeholders meet corporate identity standards and branding for all publications, media channels, and promotional products, providing internal training and support on corporate branding.
- Project coordination and support: Support with other communications and engagement projects as required.

**Reporting Responsibilities and Authorities from Supervisor**

**Knowledge, Skills, and Experience**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or Marketing preferred; Completion of a two-year diploma or associate degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related discipline may be considered. Completion of a high school diploma plus a combination of relevant experience and proven skills may also be considered.
- 1-2 years of relevant work experience. Relevant volunteer experience may also be considered.
- Outstanding written, communication, and editing skills.
- Ability to organize and track overlapping tasks and assignments, with frequent priority changes.
- Experience coordinating events with various stakeholders.
- Experience utilizing social media tools (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) to promote events, initiatives, and campaigns.
- Experience working with Canva and/or design programs such as Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to create basic publications and graphics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Strong people skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and senior management.
- Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and organized.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-based environment.
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Ability to set and manage priorities to meet deadlines.
- Able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Previous experience shooting and editing video and photo content for social media will be considered an asset.
- Experience working with First Nations is an asset.
**Special Requirements**
- Occasional requirement to work in the evenings and on weekends. Occasional travel may be required.
- Valid BC Class 5 license is preferred
**Expected Salary Range**
$60,000 - $65,000 - $70,000
Our typical hiring range will be +/- 5% of the midpoint shown above.
