**Summary**:
Within the context of a patient, client and family centred model of care and, in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, this role promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.

Reporting to Providence Health Care's (PHC) Contract Manager, Support Services, develops, implements and maintains environmental and waste management strategies that meet or exceed applicable standards, legislation and guidelines. Also, functions as contract coordinator at PHC, monitoring contractor performance and resolving client issues.

**Qualifications / Skills and Education**:
Education, Training and Experience
Grade 12, plus successful completion of a recognized program in the field of environmental or waste management, and five (5) years of experience in environmental and waste management, including experience in managing third party contracts in a health care setting or similar large institution, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities
Sound understanding of quality assurance systems.
Broad knowledge of applicable Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislation, regulations and bylaws pertaining to environmental protection and waste management.
Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare environmental practices and standards and body substance precautions.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
Ability to resolve issues in a customer service environment, tactfully and equitably, with mínimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to handle stressful situations in a consistent and positive manner.
Effective presentation skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and dispute resolution skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team..
Effective computer skills, including various word processing software and spreadsheet programs.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Assists in the development and evaluation of Waste Management programs within PHC. Evaluates and recommends changes to current practices to ensure compliance with waste management guidelines, regulations and/ or legislation.
Develops policies and conducts waste audits to ensure compliance with all federal, provincial and organizational regulations. Consults and liaises with management at hospitals and facilities throughout PHC.
Develops strategies, policies and procedures with respect to improving environmental awareness and stewardship and reducing the environmental impact of PHC/VCHA activities. Educates and trains PHC partners/interested parties with respect to waste management and environmental issues/strategies.
Assists PHC management in monitoring contract performance for designated waste management and recycling services.
Conducts joint and internal client audits of PHC contract services against prescribed contract performance criteria and assists in collecting, interpreting and presenting quality assurance data.
Provides customer relations support in response to client problems and issues regarding designated contracts. Facilitates discussions to address and resolve issues, escalating matters to the Contract Manager where necessary.
Assists the Contract Manager in the planning, development and implementation of systems and processes, policies, products and services that promote and enhance service excellence.
Supports management with respect to the coordination and servicing of contracted services committees and meetings involving clients, contractors and residents/patients.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
