**Position Overview**:
Reporting to the Director, Student Services, Education Manageris accountable for the overall management of Academic Programs. This position focuses on providing operational and administrative oversight for academic programs, ensuring the overall quality of programs, success of students, sustainability of services, and growth of programs. The Academic Manager provides professional advice and guidance on educational matters, visits the communities and the schools, develops training and mentorship opportunities, and develops a curriculum for tutorials. The Education Manager provides recommendations, work plans, and regular reports to the Director of Student Services and works collaboratively with other Senior Managers to coordinate delivery and communication between services.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Academic Programs**
- Work in a collaborative team of Senior Managers to coordinate delivery and integration of services; ensure effective communication and connection between Academic, Wellness, and Residence staff.
- Provide operational and administrative oversight of Academic programs and services, including but not limited to budgets, outreach and enrollment, program strategic plans and goals, policies, curriculum, and student engagement.
- Oversee development and delivery of new and innovative educational programs that meet the needs of IFNA communities and students; identify opportunities to enhance current educational programs.
- Identify student needs as well as trends within education and teaching; lead the development of responsive programs and program supports.
- Track and maintain records of student progress and success, evaluate overall program outcomes, and develop reports that demonstrate impact of Academic Programs.
- Maintain relationships with families of students, providing regular progress reports and updates.
**People Management**
- Manage recruitment, selection, and performance of Academic Program Staff.
- Develop and coordinate staffing plans.
- Delivers and/or coordinates various training and workshop sessions to staff and the Education Board Members, as well as attending training as appropriate.
**Reporting, Advising, and Representation**
- Provide regular reports, expertise and advice on educational matters and needs to the Director, Student Services.
- Provide presentations, expertise, and advice to communities, Chief and Council, Education Authorities, Education Directors, and school staff as requested.
- Acts as a strong education advocate for First Nations and IFNA; provides educational counselling to students when required with the support of the School Principal and Executive Director.
- Represent and provide reports to the IFNA Education Authorities at the management, Chief and Council, staff, and Board meetings.
- Participates and join educational committees, boards, community groups such as NAN Education Services membership.
- Advise on evaluations for school programs, Boards, and educational staff, providing sample performance evaluation tools and strategies.
- Coordinate Educational Consultation Services for IFNA and member communities.
**Community Engagement**
- Visits the member community schools on a regular basis; answering questions and concerns from the public and school staff, ensuring they have the educational tools they need; noting successes and areas for improvement in order to make an accurate report to senior leadership.
- Develop relationships and grassroots community programming focused on improving educational outcomes and outreach.
**Position Requirements**:
- 3-5 years’ experience in a similar education program management role, focused on student success and navigation of the Secondary School System.
- Master of Education in relevant field preferred. Bachelor of Education degree, or equivalent education and experience accepted.
- Experience coordinating or managing education services to First Nations communities is required.
- Experience working alongside both provincial and federal partners with regards to education.
- Ability to collaborate and coordinate services as member of a senior management team.
- Project, program, and budget management experience and ability is an asset.
- Strong ethical responsibility takes the initiative and is responsive to member needs.
- Demonstrate a passion for the Community.
- Friendly, courteous, considerate, responsive, motivated, trusting, and professional.
- Excellence in communicating with the staff, IFNA member First Nations, Chiefs and Councils, NAN, SLFNHA, community health workers, and public health workers/directors, Principals/Educators, school administration, etc.
- Able to motivate and manage a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, be a team player, and truly believe in positive public relations and helping others.
