Machine Operator

_**Purpose**_

The Machine Operator - Key seating is responsible for operating key seating machines to cut keyways in parts or materials according to precise specifications. The keyway cutting process is critical for ensuring the proper fit and function of mechanical components. This role requires attention to detail, technical skill, and the ability to work with various materials and machinery.
- **Duties**:_

☐ Set up and adjust key seating machines by selecting appropriate tools, dies, and materials.

☐ Install and secure workpieces in the machine to ensure stability during operation.

☐ Calibrate machines for cutting keyways, ensuring proper cutting depth and width.

☐ Operate key seating machines to cut precise keyways in materials like metal or alloy.

☐ Monitor the condition of cutting tools and replace them as needed to ensure clean, efficient keyway cutting.

☐ Perform routine maintenance on key seating machines, including cleaning and lubricating to prevent wear and malfunction.

☐ Perform quality checks throughout the machining process to ensure keyways are cut to specifications, using gauges, micrometers, or calipers.

☐ Inspect finished products for dimensional accuracy, smoothness, and alignment.

☐ Adjust machine settings to correct any deviations from the required specifications.

☐Identify and troubleshoot any machine malfunctions or cutting issues, such as tool wear, material irregularities, or misalignment.

☐ Make adjustments to machine settings or perform minor repairs to minimize downtime.

☐Adhere to all safety protocols while operating the key seating machine, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

☐ Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety standards and company policies.

☐ Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and policies as outlined in the Company Health and Safety manual to prevent workplace injuries including using personal protective equipment, using protective devises on equipment, performing all pre-use inspections as required, follow lockout procedures and report all injuries

☐ Strictly adhere to machine safety manual

☐ Follow all company rules and regulations as outlined in the Employee Handbook

☐ Follow departmental processes required by ISO and actively participate in recommending improvements

☐ Complete daily Labour Sheets ensuring accurate allocation of time spent.
- **Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements**:_

☐ High school with some technical training

**Skills**:
☐ **Technical Expertise**: Strong knowledge of keyseating machines and the keyway cutting process.

☐ **Precision & Accuracy**: Ability to set up and adjust machines for exact cutting specifications.

☐ **Problem-Solving Skills**: Skilled at identifying and addressing issues with machine operations, including adjusting settings for optimal performance.

☐ **Mechanical Aptitude**: Familiarity with the mechanics of keyseating machines and the ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting.

☐ **Attention to Detail**: High level of attention to detail to ensure that keyways are cut to precise measurements.

☐ **Safety Awareness**: Understanding and following safety regulations when operating heavy machinery.
- **Work Environment **_

☐ Normal for an industrial heavy metal manufacturing environment.

☐ Works with heavy parts, near moving mechanical parts, and material handling
equipment.

☐ Environment can be noisy and there is a risk of injury while machine is being
tested.

☐ Hot environment during summer season
