**ABOUT GEORGE BELL ARENA**

Opened in 1961, George Bell Arena replaced the outdoor Ravina Rink and was named in honour of Toronto’s Park Commissioner, George T. Bell. The arena has been home to the
Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Furies, Toronto Marlies, and Ryerson Rams.

We proudly serve the communities of York, Swansea, Toronto Junction, High Park, and
Etobicoke.

**JOB SCOPE**

Reporting to the Arena Manager and Lead Operator, Arena Operators are front-line staff responsible for the upkeep of the facility, including building maintenance, janitorial duties, general repairs, on-site supervision, and relevant tasks as assigned. Shift times range, with opening and closing responsibilities.

This role requires someone capable of working independently and as part of a team, with the ability to plan proactively and troubleshoot when necessary. Maintaining an active presence while onsite is a must to develop working relationships and support our community.

**KEY DUTIES**
- Responsible for ice maintenance. Operating relevant equipment, including ice resurfacer, ice edger, and power tools
- Set up and tear down for specified purposes, spaces, and events
- Maintain cleaning standards and actively disinfect common areas
- Perform minor repairs and general building maintenance projects
- Upkeep of both interior and exterior of building
- Receive incoming deliveries and assist with transporting to applicable spaces
- Refrigeration plant readings, resurfacer logbook and daily checklists
- Assist with overseeing ongoing projects and task management lists
- Maintain facility equipment, as determined, and outlined by management
- Onsite supervision of internal programming, including league and drop-in activities
- Provide guidance, resources, and direction to help address public inquiries
- Ability to follow safety and emergency procedures at all times
- Act as a building and community representative
- General opening and closing duties, ensuring facility standards are maintained
- Works closely with, and reports directly to Lead Operator to ensure applicable information is shared accordingly

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- A valid Ontario driver’s license (Class G), in good standing
- Experience with arena operations, in a recreational facility setting
- Excellent customer service skills, including proven ability to problem solve
- First Aid, AED, WHMIS, AODA, and Emergency Planning training
- Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Implementation and enforcement of general safety policies and procedures
- Up-to-date understanding of operating an ice resurfacer, and ice maintenance standards
- Familiarity with building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical
- Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
- Basic Refrigeration, Propane Handling, Certified Ice Technician, Safe Ice Resurfacer and other relevant ORFA certifications are an asset

**PROOF OF VACCINATION**

George Bell Arena, in accordance with the City of Toronto’s vaccination policy, requires proof of vaccination from all employees. Proof means documentation verifying receipt of a vaccination series approved by Health Canada or the World Health Organization.
