**Role Overview**
**Key Responsibilities**
- **Safety Leadership**: Develop and lead the company’s safety programs, promoting a strong safety culture among employees and stakeholders.
- **Regulatory Compliance**: Ensure full compliance with all applicable transportation laws and regulations, including provincial and federal safety standards.
- **Training and Development**: Oversee the development and implementation of safety training programs for drivers, maintenance staff, and other team members.
- **Risk Management**: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential safety and compliance risks.
- **Incident Management**: Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensuring timely reporting, thorough root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- **Policy Development**: Establish, review, and update company safety policies and procedures to align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- **Audit and Inspections**: Conduct internal safety audits and coordinate with external auditors or inspectors to maintain certifications and operational excellence.
- **Collaboration**: Work closely with operations, fleet management, and HR teams to integrate safety and compliance into all aspects of the business.
- **Reporting**: Prepare and present regular safety and compliance reports to senior management, highlighting trends, performance, and improvement opportunities.
**Qualifications and Requirements**
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in safety, compliance, or risk management within the transportation or logistics industry.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian transportation safety standards, including the Motor Vehicle Act, National Safety Code, FMCSA, FMSCA Clearinghouse and WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and influence cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Certification in safety management or related disciplines (e.g., Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals [BCRSP]) is an asset.
- Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis methodologies.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Coach Management Software and familiarity with safety management software.
