**Total 100%**

Under the direction of the Manager, Student Success, the Academic Student Success
Advisor is responsible for working in a collaborative environment with the Student Success
Team. This position is responsible for a wide range of services and initiatives necessary for
ensuring excellent student service in the area of Student Success and Wellbeing, including
academic advising, registration, retention-related service and tracking. This position will be
front line/front desk, student centric and service based. Please note the expected hours for
this position will be based on a 35-hour workweek, but will be non-regular to accommodate
service to students, events, etc.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

**A. Enrolment / Academic Advising (25%)**
- Liaise with Recruitment/Admissions staff to transition students from applicant to registrant
- Coordinate annual Academic Orientation for all incoming students
- Responsible for academic advising for first year students, and provide academic advising

to upper-year students, as required
- Ensure flow of information, from advising to Student Success planning, to improve

retention and graduation rates
- Participate in ongoing academic advising training, and assist in training, as required (e.g.

academic advising, career development, and culturally appropriate student services
training)
- Responsible for directing students through the process of course selection, program

requirements/prerequisites, and the students’ academic interests, including post-graduate
programs, and the students’ abilities
- Promote internal awareness of student satisfaction and the importance of services to

students
- Assist with coordination of annual returning student advising campaign and promotion
- Promote curricular and co-curricular Experiential Learning opportunities
- Promote International Programming Education course registration
- Provide guidance and information to students regarding policies and procedures

**B. Registration / Payment (25%)**
- Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of the university calendar, degree

program requirements, deadlines, procedures, and regulations for course overloads, etc.
- Track student registration-related data for retention purposes (e.g. advising access,

transcript requests)
- Responsible for noting and tracking patterns related to student registration and

withdrawal for the purposes of understanding student movement
- Use internal programs to process students through advising, registration, and payment

processes
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sponsorship, OSAP and scholarship eligibility

requirements in relation to advising (e.g. course load requirements)
- Interface between student registration and payment processes, including handling

student accounts
** C. Retention / Student Services (25%)**
- Collaborate and follow up with assigned students
- Work collaboratively as part of the Student Success Central team to collect, analyze,

and maintain comprehensive data regarding student participation in student life activities,
and develop an institutional profile of student activities, needs and preferences
- Promote internal awareness of student satisfaction and the importance of service to
- students- Support other student success functions as required
- Provide post-graduate advising
- Respond, assist and refer students to mental health supports and services
- Deliver Bounce Back and Early Alert programming to students
- Lead the development and implementation of academic workshops and events to

medical school, faculties of education, opportunities for international students/internships,
and Experiential Learning / COOP opportunities)
- Completion of exit interviews with students leaving the university, as required

**D. Administration / Other Duties (25%)**
- Participation on internal/ external committees, as required
- Function as a resource within the university and the external community on issues related
- to cultural competencies, programs and services at Algoma University- Act as a resource to Algoma University Students’ Union (AUSU) and Shingwauk
- Anishinaabe Students’ Union (SASA)- Create and distribute surveys to students on satisfaction of service, including annual
- student feedback survey, with specific advocacy for identified student groups- Coordinate Student Success and wellbeing events during orientation week(s) and for
- campaigns- Update service area content on the university website
