**Position Overview**

The YMCA’s Alternative Suspension program supports youth in succeeding in a school environment. Youth may attend the Alternative Suspension program in times of crisis. It is a safe space where they can stay up to date on schoolwork while also building positive relationships and developing skills and tools that will help them succeed in a classroom setting and life. The Primary youth worker strives to create a safe space for youth struggling with school or emotional distress. Youth are supported through individual and group interventions, workshops, and help with school work. The Secondary Youth Worker facilitates mediation amongst youth and school personnel, collects information and maintains database, and drafts reports and assessments. This position is responsible for building relationships and encouraging positive behaviours with youth in the programs and throughout the YMCA.

**Duties**

Ensure the program operates smoothly and the service provided to schools is of excellent quality.
- Track youth progress and monitor outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with other local organizations that work with youth.
- Develop flexible programming based on the participating students’ needs in the framework of a comprehensive, preventative approach.
- Provide a helping relationship and intervention in crisis situation and refer cases to the appropriate resources as necessary.
- Develop and update the various program tools.
- Ensure that reports, statistics and other information required are completed on schedule.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners.
- Lead youth relationship building efforts at North End facility, providing direction and programming.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Skills & Qualifications**
- Experience working with youth in a preventative approach.
- Well developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with youth, families, staff and volunteers.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- University degree or college diploma in social services, youth work or related fields.
- A criminal record check and vulnerable sector check are required as a condition of employment
- Standard First Aid and Basic Rescuer CPR

Pay: $16.52 per hour
