**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
As an integral member of the Laboratory team the **POCT/LIS Systems Administrator**responsibilities include:
- coordinating the flow of clinical/statistical information/results to/from the Laboratory Information System (LIS), other internal and external modules, physicians and clients, EMR and other departments
- Coordinating with the Laboratory for system downtimes, upgrades and recovery.
- Troubleshooting LIS/POCT problems, both hardware and software.
- Assisting with the building, updating and maintenance of the Laboratory Information System dictionaries.
- Assisting with the programming of custom reports for clinical and information purposes.
- Assisting with the programming/testing of all analyzer interfaces.
- providing training and in-service of key Laboratory staff
- Supporting IT/CIA with problems with connectivity and barcode printers.
- Maintaining general aspects of Meditech training, procedure manual and documents according to OLA requirements for LIS and POCT.
- Providing statistical and clinical information to the Laboratory Clinical Director of Laboratory Services and advise on new LIS equipment, LIS upgrades and strategies.
- Collaborating with Laboratory Leadership Team to improve workflow.
- Collaborating with regional partners in implementing computerized and logístical improvements.
- Participating in regional initiatives with respect to Meditech interface and/or interface with other health care institutions.
- supervising, organizing, assigning and distributing workload among LIS support/project staff to ensure the efficient operation of the laboratory/projects;
- performing laboratory procedures as outlined in the procedure manuals for the discipline - specific functions;
- ensuring the maintenance of quality control and equipment within assigned area of the laboratory;
- maintaining an inventory management system for the efficient utilization and distribution of laboratory equipment and supplies;
- maintaining a system for detecting, documenting and reporting discrepancies/errors and taking appropriate action(s) as required;
- development, implementation and maintenance of new and/or revised procedures, protocols and performance standards in collaboration with Administrative Director, Manager, and Laboratory Clinical Director and Chief of Pathology;
- assessing technical staff regarding performance and maintaining competency of specific discipline
- participating in staff and patient experience and feedback initiatives, professional development, teaching/ educational activities, safety and quality improvement programs to ensure excellence in the provision of services;
- observing and understanding RVH and departmental policies and procedures, adhering to RVH and departmental mission and vision statements while maintaining patient confidentiality
- updating LIS dictionary for specific disciplines

- Responding to requests for new POCT instrumentation and/or new manual POCT tests.
- Maintaining working knowledge of infection control concepts.
- Assisting with contingency plans and risk management
- Establishing, revising, and monitoring POCT policies and procedures using a document controlled format.
- Participates in all audits, self-assessments and peer visits.
- Collaborating with clinical educators to deliver the education and recertification
- Providing education to laboratory staff for POCT Coordinator coverage purposes.
- Participates in the evaluation of instrumentation and assays for potential POCT implementation
- Performing validation and correlation studies on all POCT testing devices as per requirements
- Assists with reviewing QC and maintenance records for all test locations
- Assists with compilation of all data into monthly reports for review by the Laboratory Manager, Laboratory Director and POCT user area managers.
- Following up with patient care area managers to develop corrective action plans
- Coordinating, ordering, distributing, tracking and reviewing external proficiency testing (EPT) materials
- Assists with responses to External Proficiency Testing reports in collaboration with the Laboratory Director and patient care areas.
- Assists with incident reports as per RVH policy and following up with physicians and patient care areas for corrective action as required.
- Working with vendors for implementation, service and troubleshooting.
- Keeping up to date and informing personnel of any manufacturer changes in procedures or product alerts.
- Assists with Compiling statistics and reports related to laboratory services and POCT.
- Performing other related duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned, requested, or required.
**RELATED DUTIES**:
- Contributing to Department by performing related tasks as required.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and personal health information
