**Job Title: Resource Specialist**
**Department: Employment Services**
**Location: Oakville**
**Schedule: Full-time (35 hours/week)**
**Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm (with ability to work 1 evening shift per week)**
**Reports To: Site Coordinator**
**These are your responsibilities**:
- Register new clients and assist them in completing applicable forms
- Provide a tour of the Resource Centre and orientation to new clients
- Assess self-serve clients’ needs and abilities on an ongoing basis and if they require help beyond self-directed, promote and get them connected to assisted services
- Maintain a small caseload of clients who are able to work more independently and require less intensive case management. Create and update their Employment Services Action Plan to help clients move through short
- term and long-term career goals.
- Schedule clients for appointments and register them in workshops and special events
- Set up monthly calendar of events and workshops for clients and provide reminders to registrants
- Facilitate workshops and information sessions on a variety of topics related to job search, career planning, labour market research, etc. using a virtual platform or in person
- Assist clients in accessing resources related to employment services, labour market data and community supports
- Ensure office supplies are ordered and replenished as required
- Keep up-to-date on trends in resumes and cover letters
- Post job postings to our internal job board and share relevant openings with clients
- Compile and enter end of month RI data and surveys, and upload into Ministry’s database
- Provide back-up coverage for the Employment Services Resource Specialists, located in any of the four Employment Services sites
**What you need to bring to this job**:
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in a related field. Career Development Practitioner or similar certification considered an asset
- Three or more relevant years of experience within a similar role
- History of taking a professional and cooperative teamwork approach, projecting a positive attitude and exemplifying Centre for Skills’ mission, vision and values
- Focused on providing outstanding customer service - outgoing, friendly, and compassionate
- Strong ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and ensure confidentiality
- Proven comfort level deescalating situations where clients may be acting in a negative or inappropriate manner
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds
- Experience with Motivational Interviewing, Solution-focused Counselling, and the Common Assessment Tool are an asset
- Broad-based knowledge of Halton / Peel based community services
- Strong knowledge of job search techniques, career development, and issues relating to unemployment
- Self-starter who is results-oriented and self-motivated
- Strong attention to detail, commitment to integrity, and ability to multi-task
- Highly skilled and experienced using the MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience using EOIS-CaMS is an asset
- Access to a reliable vehicle, possession of a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel throughout Halton and Peel regions as required
- Available to work day, evening and/or holiday shifts on a rotating schedule as required
