The Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) is responsible for assisting with the development and maintenance of the nursing programs for St. Joseph’s at Fleming and will maintain all MOHLTC guidelines according to the FLTCH Act therein. The ADOC is responsible for assisting in managing all aspects of nursing care within the Home to ensure quality, person-centered resident care through the effective, efficient delivery of established standards within legislative and budgetary requirements, including the accreditation standards of the Canadian Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

The ADOC will also be responsible for maintaining and revising clinical and administrative records and reports for residents and department personnel as well as ensuring that the appropriate equipment and supplies are available and that the standards of safety for their use are met. The ADOC performs their job duties while ensuring adherence to St. Joseph’s at Flemings relevant policies, procedures, mandatory education, ministry/legislative requirements, and Collective Agreements, under the direction of the Director of Resident Care (DRC).

**Responsibilities**:

- Daily supervision of nursing staff in compliance with accepted nursing practices
- Conduct or participate in nursing staff interviews, orientations, evaluations, and disciplinary procedures.
- Assist the DRC in the implementation and evaluation of the nursing department quality improvement initiatives, risk management systems, data collection and analysis, report writing, procedural updates.
- Supports Committee Leads in the coordination and implementation of best practice and risk management initiatives related to resident care (i.e., falls, restraint use, wound management, Infection Control)
- Responsible for the High Intensity Needs program
- Maintains a system of care assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation at the resident and unit program level that maximizes staff resources and contributes to interdisciplinary team approach to resident care
- Effectively supports the RAI-MDS program
- Lead the Quality & risk Management program
- Maintains an active presence in the Home Areas mentoring managers and staff
- Initiates investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety; develops and monitors modified work programs for nursing personnel
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Resident Care on special projects, reviews, and other duties as be assigned
- Identify areas of improvement for staff development and work with the DRC to ensure overall effectiveness of the nursing department
- Advocating for ethical and effective practice in all areas in the organization
- Focusing on Resident Centered Care Needs as required by MOH LTC Home Legislation
- Actively participates in the palliative care program, goals of care and advanced care planning
- Assumes responsibility for the nursing department in the absence of the DRC

**Qualifications**:

- Registered Nurse BScN preferred.
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing).
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO.
- Proven organizational, prioritization, critical thinking, problem-solving and teaching skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound judgement, good observation skills, and empathy.
- Demonstrated ability to assume a supervisory role.
- Must have a satisfactory performance record.
- 2 years Long-Term Care experience preferred.
