The Wachiay Friendship Centre in Courtenay, BC, is seeking a temporary ROOTS Program Manager to join our team. This full-time position (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday) is available until early July, 2025 (or the return of the incumbent).

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Program Director, the ROOTS Program Manager will provide services to the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) to support the development of cultural plans and strategies to reconnect children with their families and communities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Meet regularly with MCFD staff to create a working list of children in care who need a ROOTS plan.
- Develop a service plan and a list of contacts for each client/file, including parents, extended family, MCFD staff, foster parents, and other community members or resources.
- Prepare a family tree and cultural plan, determining the cultural heritage of both the mother and father.
- Meet all reporting requirements as identified by the Wachiay Friendship Centre and MCFD.
- Ensure the protection and privacy of client information.
- Provide progress reports to the Executive Director and MCFD.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and the diversity of Indigenous communities in BC.
- Experience working with MCFD.
- Knowledge of MCFD programs.
- Experience working with youth.
- Experience working with Indigenous individuals, families, and communities.
- Ability to build relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members.
- Strong research, communication, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in computer skills.
- Class IV Driver’s License preferred.

Education & Experience:

- Education: Post-secondary education preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience working with youth, preferably in an Indigenous or community service setting.

Compensation:
Hourly wage: $25 - $32, depending on experience and education.
