The Mental Clinician will address a significate gap for LGBTQ2S+ youth who are struggling with mental health and substance use concerns. This position will provide clinical interventions, including evidence informed therapeutic interventions and advocacy to this population.
The target population for this program are youth within the Hamilton community between the ages of 16-21 many of whom are street involved (hard to reach, homeless, living in shelters), LGBTQ2S+ identified youth who are dealing with mental health and substance use issues.
- Provide individual 1:1 clinical care to clients with significant mental health and addiction issues
- Make referrals on behalf of clients to a wide variety of community programs and services
- Provide psycho-education to youth accessing this program
- Work with individuals to create an individual treatment plan, focusing on strengths and capacities, using evidence informed therapy and the clinical needs of the individual
- Case conferences/consultation with other treatment providers and community organizations
- Education and advocacy
- Complete all required documentation related to the clinical care of clients
- Work collaboratively with community partners in a multidisciplinary approach
**Qualifications**
- Lived and /or work experience with LGBTQ2S+ populations
- A combination of education (BSW, or equivalent) and experience in concurrent disorder provision with young people
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, adolescent and emerging adult mental health and substance use
- Assessment skills, counseling and case management skills
- Knowledge of community resources and services, social and environmental determinants of health, evidence informed practices in working with child/adolescent mental health
- Ability to develop and facilitate programs/groups for youth living with mental health issues
- Ability to work in the community
- Current CPR and First Aid certificate
- Valid driver’s license required
- Possess a knowledge of the issues that affect LGBTQ2S+ youth
- Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd Centres
- Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
- **Hours of work**: 80 hours every 2 weeks, weekday’s evenings and some weekends
