Position Overview

**Key duties and responsibilities**

  • Recommends strategic goals and objectives for Youth Services consistent with the mission core values and strategies of the department and the corporation.
  • Consults with other city departments neighborhood groups and community agencies with regards to Youth Services issues.
  • Identifies gaps/barriers affecting youth participation in City and community-based programs.
  • Plans, develops and delivers youth programs and events.
  • Researches and provides support for the development and implementation of community
  • based programs and services.
  • Acts as a resource and provides leadership for the Guelph Youth Council to support their organizational development and build their capacity to support Youth initiatives and special events.
  • Supports the development and implementation of policies and operating principles specific to the Guelph Youth Council.
  • Develops funding proposals and partnership agreements that support the Guelph Youth Council and Youth program development.
  • Supports marketing tools and content to promote the Guelph Youth Council and Youth programs and services.
  • Supports the Youth Council by coordinating and distributing of meeting minutes agendas and maintaining the Youth Services website.
  • Sets a visible and positive leadership example through coaching and mentoring of Youth Council members and community-based youth program staff.
  • Supports recruitment, training and leadership of program staff and ensures that recruitment and orientation of Youth Council volunteers is consistent with the department’s Volunteer Management policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates, communicates, and develops partnerships with Youth serving agencies, including Guelph youth service providers and municipal counterparts.
  • Provides input on annual work plans and operating budgets for the Youth Services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications and requirements**

  • Excellent customer service skills with sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to provide effective work direction, training, guidance, and support to staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to facilitate and share meetings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable regulations.
  • Experience with Perfect Mind, JDE and Synergen/WAM would be an asset.
  • High Five qualification would be an asset.
  • Self-directed to identify community leisure needs.
  • A high degree of tact & diplomacy in order to work effectively with committees & older adults.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work well with part-time city staff and Community Partners.
  • Experience and ability to use social media tools (ex. Facebook and Instagram).
  • Knowledge of community resources and commitment to issues in the Youth field.
  • Youth recreation leadership certificate considered an asset.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR C/AED/First Aid certificate.
  • A satisfactory police record/vulnerable sector check will be required at the time of job offer.

**Hours of work**

35 hours per week; 7 hours per day. Evening and weekend work is a requirement of this position.

For the purpose of special events, community outreach, public facility bookings and program registrations, employees in Culture and Recreation may work alternate hours, given two weeks’ advance notice, but shall not be scheduled for more than seven (7) consecutive hours per day, five (5) consecutive days per week, between the hours of 7:00am and 1:00am.

**Pay/Salary**

CUPE 973: Grade 8: $33.19 - $40.76 per hour
