Food Packager

Summerhill Market is a boutique grocery store chain in Toronto that specializes in scratch-made prepared foods and on-trend ingredients. Our stores go above and beyond a typical grocery store by offering an extensive rotating selection of ready to eat gourmet meals, freshly baked goodies, and curated hard to find groceries.

The **Food Packager** is responsible for overseeing the final stages of food production, mainly: storage, packaging, labeling and distribution from our Commissary to our other locations.

**Working 5 days/week including weekends.**

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

The Packager performs some or all of the following duties:

- Overseeing the packaging and labeling of food offerings for sale for retail areas in Summerhill Market’s stores;
- Receiving and fulfilling orders;
- Accurately documenting all production;
- Working with logistics team to ensure accurate and timely delivery of goods;
- Preparing and filling wholesale orders;
- Ability to read, understand and execute orders while managing a team of individuals;
- Anticipating and communicating any shortages to all Summerhill locations;
- Working with management to improve systems;
- Inventory and ordering of all packaging materials;
- Upholding health and safety standards including Toronto Public Health regulations;
- Unpacking and storing supplies in refrigerators, cupboards and other storage areas;
- Performing other duties as may be assigned
- Working closely with lead packager to build on skill set

**CREDENTIALS REQUIRED**

**Skills**:

- Ability to execute orders while managing a team of individuals;
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and work environment;
- Ability to manage several tasks and production streams at once;
- Expert knowledge of products, preparation and safe handling;
- Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less;
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures;
- Ability to work in a cold and warm environment as required (fridge, freezer, ovens, stove, etc.);
- An understanding of food and kitchen safety;
**Education & Experience**:

- Minimum of 1 year of previous experience in kitchen, production facility or similar setting
- Understanding of inventory control and food tracking software an asset
- Excellent communication skills - written & oral
- Food Handlers Certification
- Completion of secondary school is preferred
