Supervisor, Child and Youth

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organizations commit to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The
**Child and Youth Supervisor **at YMCA of Northern Alberta provides effective leadership in directing the overall delivery of all non-aquatic Child and Youth programs in the Health, Fitness and Aquatics Centre. Programs under the supervision of this role include Day Camps, Sports and Recreation, Arts and Science as well as Childminding. Key elements of this position include the supervision and direction of staff, volunteers, development, and coordination of programming and optimal customer service of child and youth members. The supervisor is accountable to their staff team, the members, volunteers, the public for successful child and youth program delivery, and the association task group wherein the supervisor is a member.

- Recruit, hire, train, coach, supervise and manage all full-time and part-time staff and volunteers within the program areas.
- Ensure YMCA’s standards are always followed by staff and volunteers.
- Create schedule for staff and volunteers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with staff, volunteers and members, act as a role model in how you interact and communicate with the team and colleagues of all levels with the YMCA. Ensure staff, volunteers and members are following YMCA standards.
- Active supervision of all members and instructors during programs.
- Coordinate and facilitate the operations of all programs and services for members by managing statistics, meet targets for program registration, track attendance and cancellations for programs and audit programs for quality assurance.
- Ensure Healthy Child Development (HCD), and Healthy Adolescent Development (HAD) principals are demonstrated in program development, lesson planning, teaching approaches and activities.
- Ensure the program schedule includes a variety of times and options, that they are scheduled to complement child and youth programs. programs start and finish on times.
- Manage waitlists and schedule changes.
- Participate in association wide day camp development and programming including.
- Manage within a budget.
- Comply with the Centre’s emergency response and procedures by; ensuring staff and volunteers are trained accordingly, participating in an annual review of emergency procedures, act as needed to ensure a safe work environment for staff and volunteers.

**What You’ll Need for This Job**
- University Degree in Recreation, Child Studies, Physical Education or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 1-year supervisory experience.
- Experience working with children, preferably in a camp leadership role.
- NCCP Level 1 or 2 is an asset.
- Will have to complete necessary courses within 3 months of hire
- Certifications: Standard First Aid & CPR-C
- Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable sector check.
